The word “robot” conjures up images of famous Hollywood humanoid characters, but robots are mostly undramatic mechanical devices programmed to perform specific repetitive functions. They are used routinely to carry out many tasks that people don’t want to do because such jobs are boring, dirty, or dangerous.

Robots can also be programmed to carry out some tasks that are too complex for humans. They are broadly classified as industrial and have multiple uses from robots that weld parts on auto assembly lines to robots that interact with humans in the service industry.

Though you may not feel like you are dealing with a robot, using the self-checkout lane at the grocery store or purchasing tickets from a kiosk at the movies involves interacting with service robots. Robots most obviously impact everyday life in a service capacity.

We can view future robots as artificial robotic organisms that have properties mimicking, and greatly extending, the capabilities of natural organisms. The unique properties of softness and compliance make these machines highly suited to interactions with delicate things, including the human body.

Importance of robotics

Robots play important roles in the lives of humans as it is used in many applications. We will talk about some of them -

1. Medicine: In the world of medicine, robots have played imperative roles. For instance, robots help the surgeon do precise movements and work, even with shaky hands. Robotic surgery is now being used worldwide to assist doctors during surgical procedures.

Computer-assisted surgical systems or robotically-assisted surgical (RAS) devices are used for pre-operative planning and surgical navigation during operations. The RAS enables the surgeon to use a computer and software technology to control and maneuver instruments through a small incision in the patient’s body.

2. Education: Many students suffer from various kinds of diseases every day. So, they cannot physically attend the classes. For this reason, they miss lessons. Engineers have made that kind of robot that can help the students attend their classes from afar. The robot performs as a person in the classroom which is controlled by the person himself. Its cameras are his eyes and body is for interacting with other students and teachers. So, the person can see and do everything in the classroom that he wants to do from the hospital or the house.

3. Security: The Job of a security robot is normal. It surveys the desired area. It immediately notifies the owner if there is any type of disturbance occurred. This kind of robot is used in the military. This kind of robot can also be used in human daily life.

In the military, this type of robot does various kinds of jobs. They are used to arm and disarm bombs. They are sent to the desired area to monitor the enemy’s activity which is a dangerous job for the soldiers.

For use in human’s daily life, this type of robot monitors home when people are away from their home. This robot helps people to monitor the skies, ground, and water from a remote location.

You can control this type of robots from another location to send it to your desired location to monitor the activities of that location. Thus, you can protect your home and properties from being harmed if you are not there to monitor them.

4. Restaurants: Japan leads the world in robot technology by using robots in restaurant kitchens to make sushi and chop vegetables. They are also important earlier in food production, planting rice and tending growing crops. Additionally, robots work as receptionists, cleaners, and drink servers.

Some robots specialize in making coffee, starting with the beans, while others can be hired as a barman to serve drinks at parties or working behind a bar. The makers of such robots claim a savings of up to 20 percent on the cost of spilled drinks.

Conclusion

As you can see, Robots will soon be able to read texts for us, engage in conversations, clean our windows, deliver packets and parcels, prepare our pill-boxes and even help us get back on our feet should we fall, or have difficulty just getting up.

We had the first in the military sector, then carrying out industrial chores, now we see a new generation coming, prepared to do household chores, maintenance work, leisure activities, or engage in educational activities. These robots are about to become our future companions. So, where do we stand today?
