1. Tell us more about your role & responsibilities at your college?

I am the faculty of the dance club at my college. My roles and responsibilities are basically teaching dance to the students, preparing choreographies for several events of the college, and for other college fests. I also look after the events of the dance club and the fests of the college, the rules and regulations are made and passed on by me. And almost everything related to dancing is done by me or is done under my supervision in the college.

2. How did you rise up to your position and how can a student aspiring the same, approach it?

I was appointed by the chairman of the college, as I come under the scholarship criteria due to my high school grades, so I was to fill a form and write about my extra-curricular achievements so when he saw my form and read about the few achievements I have, he then called me up and asked me to teach in the college as a faculty. For a student aspiring the same, needs to be really good at whatever he or she does, so that they can opt for a position like this and get paid by the college too. And I believe if u r good at something u must never do it for free so be best at it and then u can easily have a hand on it.

3. What have been some of your biggest challenges and learnings from what you do?

Talking about the challenges I personally faced were, when I had to discuss anything with management about the events budget because it might get hefty when you and the management has different opinions on the same thing and it can get messier when they don’t agree with you and then again you have to come up with some other plan and give another 2 hours of presentation to make them agree on why your idea is best and will be good for the event.

The learning here is very important because you have to stick to what you want and not just settle for less just because the management doesn’t agree with your plan. you must be really focused on your goal and the way you want things to turn out. The dedication, the right energy, good intention, and a nice plan will be needed and when you don’t move back you get what you want. And this has been my biggest learning to date.

4. What did you do in your current role that makes you feel really proud of yourself?

I have taught students for various events in the college, including my friends, seniors and juniors, and the way I get appreciated by all of them and especially my faculty members makes me really proud, the best moment was when the chairman himself praised me. Despite being so busy he called me personally to thank me for the events and the performances, at that very moment I felt really proud.

5. What's your message to encourage students to do internships and attend conferences?

Internships are very important, one must-do internship to know the exposure one can get and can explore a lot of other things also it teaches you a lot about life, the journey of one’s career that will gear up in a few years and importantly it makes students realize their potential and what extra they can do while being in pressure and going out of the way to complete the task. Also attending conferences and other seminars can really help in gaining a lot of knowledge about different things, you might not have to know everything but knowing a little extra is never bad.
