Student Leader Interview - Shrishti Gupta, IITM

1. Tell us more about your role and responsibilities at your college?

The roles and responsibilities which I was assigned with in my college was the class representative which made me proud. There I used to maintain transmission between the professor and my classmates ..Bringing issues of the class to the professor. And also helped the professors in giving the notes and etc..After 6 months I joined a Debate Society in which I had to assign all the work and organize the auditions for the juniors.

2. How did you rise up to your position and how can a student aspiring the same, approach it?

I spent almost one year to learn new things and explore new stuff. I gained new ideas and realized my potential. For aspiring the students, it's just that they need to be highly motivated towards it, and they should explore more and more at the right age and be dedicated towards their work. When they get a chance, they should grab the opportunity.

3. What have been some of your biggest challenges and learning from what you do?

The biggest challenge I have faced was de-motivational talks from the people. Different people regularly ask negative questions about your work and point out the negative points in it. But the learning I got is to not stop at any phase of this. We have to achieve our goal and for that we have to complete our race properly.

4. What did you do in your current role that makes you feel really proud of yourself?

I would love to talk about an incident in which our whole team overcame a tough situation. There was a festival going to start after one week and our college team was going to participate in it. But unfortunately that team has moved back from the competition and our team had to join that just before 2 days of it. Though, we went for the competition, and placed third best for it. We got an award for this achievement.

5. What's your message to encourage students to do internships and attend conferences?

Internships and conferences serve as brilliant tools to gain experience. They help to improve your clarity regarding a future career path.  Internships allow students to improve their changes of post graduation success and build a higher level of confidence when entering the workforce. Conferences help students to expand their knowledge and find solutions to their problems.  Internships and conference give access to places of easy flow of ideas. In the end I would love to say that experiences are irreplaceable.
