I recently interacted with someone from Tanzania who I greatly admired. He owned a few wristwatches. He would wear a single watch the entire time and take it off straight at night. He said that the habit was just a reminder for him to spend the day productively.

The good man went on to share that every person has only one true possession at a time. Some people have them for years while others, only moments.

I love collecting watches. Unfortunately, it might be an expensive hobby. The majority of the people who appreciate the intricacy or variety of watches have more than two watches for sure. Each individual watch has a story and each tells more than the time of day.

The variety of reasons why some people wear a watch even when they have a phone are mentioned below:

A Privilege

People do fear often they may miss out on something if they turn their phones off or leave it behind. This is also a clear indication of being immersed into a racket of useless chats, feeds, texts, and messages, which can be disturbing to the mind.

Wearing a watch saves time while keeping us away from these cyber-crimes. A person can be a slave to technology or rebel against the machine.

Monitoring

Classrooms that do not allow mobiles will permit wristwatches. They are very important when testing - especially for board or entrance exams.

Feasibility

Daily exercising makes more sense to wear a sports watch than carrying a phone. The Timex Ironman remains a trusted running accessory. For those who enjoy water sports like scuba diving, they need a waterproof diving watch like the DOXA pictured or Seiko SKA371.

Status Symbol

In the high-end watch market, some brands are recognized as expensive while other brands are not well known by the general public as being costly. The watch enthusiast knows they’re pricey and that speaks about the owner.

Style

For men, this is probably the only jewelry a gentleman can wear as a form of self-expression.

Cost

An accurate watch can be purchased anywhere from Online stores to Shopping malls for a few Rupees to “ya gotta be kidding me”. Totally independent of where the watch is purchased from, it doesn’t require an extra subscription.

Dependency

Smartphone batteries need to be charged constantly while kinetic or solar watches can run for decades. Quartz watches run on a single button battery that can last for 2–7 years before needing a battery change. Most watches are water-resistant where most phones are not.

Convenience

A turn of the wrist and there is the time without the need for digging out a phone. For those who sneer at the watch wearing public, you are in danger of joining the ranks of tweeting sheeple. You risk becoming one of the technology-connected drones.

While grasping for the cutting edge, don’t forget that for all of us time is running out. Make good use of every second as the sands in your hourglass descend!
