1. Tell me about you and your journey.

I am a professional makeup artist and a makeup educator. So, my journey of becoming a makeup artist is little different. This was not actually planned as my career goal. Initially in my school and college days I was a commerce student and wanted to do something in field of finance. However in my college days i was a very active in co-curricular activities such as fashion society, college fest everything.

So, after I completed my graduation I took up a job as a banker but those 6 months of banking career made me realize I am not meant for cooperate world. Finally I left my job listened to my heart and with my mother’s support enrolled in a professional makeup artist course. And here I am today, successfully running my own makeup studio.

Today I am just 23 and within this span of time Me along with my team have covered 100 plus weddings successfully . I have done  ramp makeups for for many fashion shows in my initial career days such as Mr and Mrs Dellywood.

2. Why did you choose this career?

I believe one should follow his passion and do something that makes your inner self happy and satisfied. It was just 2 years back when I started my journey and after there has no looking back. For me every woman is beautiful in her own ways and power of makeup makes her believe in that. Whenever I go  for a makeup session I make sure not only my client looks beautiful but also feel beautiful.

For me makeup is an art and my clients face is a canvas which I need to paint beautifully but at same time making her look herself. When my brides call or text me and say I made there that day extra special and they thank me for same  or when my parents meet someone and they compliment by saying yes we saw your daughters that or this makeup picture it was really nice or that feeling of happiness is something I just cant explain in words.

3. How can one build a clientele as a makeup artist?

Trust me on this its only and only your work and skills that can get you clients. Make a strong portfolio. In your initial days try doing more collaborations with some fashion designers or maybe some good photographers. Hire a good model do shoots get High quality work pictures and upload them on right platform such as Instagram.

Instagram today is one of the biggest social media platform to show your skills. Also you can do some paid promotions on Instagram by just setting right target audience. Apart from this a good word of mouth matters the most. A client will not only judge you on your makeup skills but also how humble, professional and punctual you are.

Work ethics plays a very important role in client building. Make sure you understand your clients taste and preferences and not only showcase your talent.

4. What are some of your top makeup tips?

I always do a client consulting session before I start to understand what my client wants so that we both don't have a different picture of the final look. Also a good skin can only lead to good makeup. Make sure you do a proper prep and prime according to your client skin type. Always have a clear understanding of your clients skin type and use products accordingly.

Also for me less is more. A little product can also do wonders please don't put on unnecessary layers of foundation if not required the more natural your makeup looks the more happy your client is.

5. What kind of opportunities one can get after becoming makeup artist?

Once you are certified makeup artist I think then there is no end for opportunities you have in your way. In today's era makeup artistry is not only confined to bridal makeups. There are many new versions of it such as media makeups ,ramp makeups, Gothic makeup face and the list is endless. One can also work in Bollywood industry or with some designers and e-commerce website.

6. Which professional courses would you suggest for aspiring artists?

A good mentor can only yield good results. Invest in a course where you can look back to your mentor for any doubts and difficulties. Also the course structure should be designed in a way where not only you learn a lot but also get ample time to practice because its only practice that makeups you better and best.

7. Your favorite book and why?

Haha! Trust me after my final year of college there’s not a single book I have with me. I am not at all a book reading person. Instead I love to search what’s trending these days in fashion and makeup ( if you can count that in book reading)
