1.
Tell me about you and your journey.
This is Ekta Arora hailing from Ambala Cantt,
Haryana. I am a Make-up artist by profession in my hometown. If I talk
about my journey it was also full of ups and downs just like that of others. I
feel this is what we call struggle and of course, experience.
We obviously
cannot deny that it is a part of our successful life. I had started working in
2012 in this field and during these 8 years, my family, especially my husband
constantly supported me. I would credit my family’s faith in me, a reason for
my success.
2.
Why did you choose this career?
Just like other people, I always wanted to be
independent by doing something great in my life. I was always an ambitious girl
who wanted to prove her worth in the family and society.
Not only society was
the reason, but yes, my love for make-up and that dream of becoming an
independent girl compelled me to choose a career in this field.
3.
How can one build a clientele as a
makeup artist?
As an experienced make-up artist, I would suggest
people to always stay honest with your work. Try and give your 100% dedication
and determination to your passion and profession.
Apart from this, we all know the customer is the
king of the market. Without him, the market seems to be zero. Similarly, here
the clients should be the priority because customer satisfaction is the main
element to survive in the market.
So positively render the quality services to
your clients and these clients would surely get back to you again and again
because of this quality and fair treatment.
So, in my perception, the best of
your work while concerning the satisfaction and needs of your clients are the two
key elements to build a good clientele.
4.
What are some of your top make-up
tips?
There are several tips or suggestions which a
make-up artist could give to the clients or other people. Out of these, most
importantly I would like to suggest a tip for the overall make-up look.
And
that is to take two or three facial packs before applying the makeup. It would
surely enhance the beauty and the role of make-up.
5.
What kind of job opportunities one
can get after becoming a make-up artist?
In our society, people still assume that there are
only a few opportunities for make-up artists. But I would it is a myth
nowadays. A passionate make-up artist can open his academy to teach aspiring
make-up artists.
If someone is interested in doing a job, he or she can join any
parlour or institution. In the Film industry itself, make-up artists are getting
favourable salaries, and the demand for professionals is pretty high now. So
there are endless opportunities if you have the passion to avail those.
6.
Which professional courses would you
suggest for aspiring artists?
If one wants to become a certified pro-make-up
artist, then there are several courses one can apply for. Before going to be
trained under any mentor, make-up master, or institution, there is a need for
deep research before investing time and money.
To get a formal education,
certificate and diploma courses are starting from 3 months to 12 months and so
on. There are several courses like that in Beauty Therapy, Self-Makeup, Bridal
Make-up, Basics, Specialists, and many more. One could select based on their
needs and the availability of resources.
And I would suggest exploring all the
sub-fields under it to get more experience and perfection. Further, the main
element which cannot be ignored is the Practice.
Every course is just futile if
you do not practice regularly as theoretical knowledge is rarely used without
practical implementation.
7.
Your favourite book and why?
Honestly, I never read any books or novels. Yes,
sometimes I go through the magazines related to my field. But, if I talk about
the subject, I love reading economics, but that is not related to my field.
8.
What piece of advice would you give
to aspiring make-up artists?
I would firstly say choosing a make-up artist as
your profession is a worthy decision, and the first step itself because it has great scope for your bright future.
But the dedication and hard work along
with smart work is also a necessity in this fast-moving era of technologies.
Motivation is a great key to success.
Appreciate yourself for your strength,
and never let yourself down. Keep motivating yourself because self-motivation
is always long-lasting and more impactful.
