1. Tell us more about your background and journey.

The love for hues made me fall into the world of painting. I did Integrated MA in English. While in college, Jayaram sir, who taught poetry as well supported me with his guidance and painting tips. I started painting while I was in school and initially was into oil painting later switched to acrylics due to its conveniences.

After college, working as an English lecturer, painting was an escape during weekends. As I resigned from job after an year, I organized myself to get into painting fully!!!! I recreate world famous paintings in miniature canvases. I started HuesCues, to sell my miniature paintings along with customized works through social media across India. Now passion met profession with its full colors to my life.

2. When did you decide you wanted to be an painter/illustrator?

Lockdown days made me rethink about my career though I always love to paint, when I put up some of my previous works for sale. There were positive approaches from people in my social circle. So, along with friend, we created our art space which in turn received huge appreciation and support.

3. Is it a financially stable career?

Not in the beginning stages of growth but through proper understanding of the trends. I think people appreciate art. Most of the orders we receive are painted for customers to gift someone.

4. Who is your favourite illustrator and why?

Though I enjoy contemporary paintings. Expressionist painters are my favorite. Van Gogh's blues, Klimt's yellows, Munch's reds, Kahlo's self portraits  and Monet inspire me.

5. Where do you get inspired from to create art?

I always prefer landscapes, so I grab the colors of nature to fill my canvas. Random ideas over a cup of coffee or a talk with my friend brings up new possibilities of colors. And mostly customized works are way more limited and sometimes rework to fulfil their expectations.

6. What does your typical day look like?

Specific time schedule is not possible. But painting requires a spark to start a work!!! Some days, early morning is perfect. On the other hand, sometimes I used to stay till 1 am for finishing up a work. And I read books, blog or learn in between!!! Likewise, some works take two or three days otherwise few hours.

7. What piece of advice would you like to give to future aspiring illustrators?

Never give up on your dreams. Imagination is the art!!! Be creative, keep on practising.  Learn new ideas, techniques and keep updating yourself with the current trends. Painting isn't easy but it give us passion to do more.

8. Which is your favourite book and why?

After painting, I'm a poet. Poetry is a painting fully flooded with aesthetic beauty and charm like Blake and Sylvia Plath. Favorite books actually vary widely, but now I fallen for The Forty rules of Love by Elif.
