Creativity Is Intelligence Having Fun - Ann Alice Sartho

1.Tell me about you and your journey.

Just like every other girl back in my days I was also told that being a doctor/dentist or engineer was the best possible thing for me. Being my clueless self , I decided for dentistry. In my 1st year of college itself as a dental student I was sure this wasn’t for me but obviously I couldn’t change anything about it anymore so I continued and struggled my way through finishing the course.

Since I spent 5 years a lot of money on studying BDS, I tried sticking to dentistry for sometime & worked under several dentists. Things got way too monotonous & knew I was not growing in this field. One fine day I stumbled upon a makeup tutorial on YouTube. Little did I know that that video would change the entire face of my career. I got addicted to makeup & started trying out looks on myself. I found the courage to post a look on Instagram and got positive reviews on my work. After a while I built my way through the line. I can’t say I am successful yet but I know I am in the right track now.

2. Why did you chose this career?

Makeup gave me the joy and sense of belonging that my other ventures did not. After some consecutive posts of my makeup looks on IG followed by the positive reviews I took a huge leap and quit my job as a dentist wanting to do more than just post pictures on IG. I decided to do this as my profession. I started getting enquires on Instagram and 1 bride after the other.

3. How can one build a clientele as a makeup artist?

It's like wildfire. Put your all into the work you do and before you know it recommendations work their way through.

4. What kind of job opportunities one can get after becoming a make up artist?

There are tons of opportunities. One can be a freelancer or take to television and films. Runway makeup artist- The work is fast-paced and fun—but it can be extremely stressful, too. You’ll be applying makeup to models to complement a designer’s collection. You can be a print makeup artist or take to celebrity makeup. There are saloon options too.

5. Which professional courses would you suggest for aspiring artists?

If you require a formal training in the field I'd suggest associate degree programs
and certificate program in aesthetics, cosmetology, and makeup artistry.
