Insights on Instagram by an Influencer: Shraddha Pawar

1. What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?
Instagram was barely a social media application when I first started using it in my college days. My growth on Instagram has been completely organic as I never had an agenda to start a page per se. It began with me sharing my travel photography work from college tours and it only grew over the years and has turned into a community for me where I can share my work for viewers to enjoy.
My page is about Travel and Mindfulness majorly but it also works around aesthetics, photography, design, and personal growth.

2. How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?
I don’t really approve of the term influencer so much but the basic difference would be that a blogger is someone who curates important information together about one topic and leaves the audience to decide what’s best for them whereas an influencer, ‘influences’ the purchasing decisions of the consumer. He/She is someone who sets trends and creates a hype or culture around a particular product/service.

3. Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?
I wouldn’t be the best person to comment on this, as the industry is still new and everyone is learning from each other’s experiences.
Even though it’s a great career opportunity, I think it comes with a lot of other uncertainties that affect your financial planning, and hence one has to do exceptionally well to have this as a sustainable career option. This job demands constant creative inputs and new idea execution which needs a lot of effort and investment. It’s a long journey before it becomes sustainable.

4. What do you think influences consumer behavior?
Personal reviews or word of mouth have been the best kind of marketing so far and that’s what influences the consumer. If the audiences connect with an influencer or begin to trust his/her judgment, it gets easier for the influencer to influence the decisions of the consumer and that’s why I think it’s a far more responsible job than what it’s looked at as.

5. Your opinion on Instagram contemplating removing likes option for posts.
I think it’s a great change as the number game really creates room for internal competition between all Instagram users (influencers and audience) both, and directly affects the effort they wish to put on their work. Instead of the exact number, if the statistics are given in slabs of hundreds, thousands, millions, and the detailed statistics are kept as private reports, I think the platform can be a more positive and enjoyable space for everyone.
I totally support it!

6. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
My idea of success is to create a life of choices. If you can make a choice for yourself, you are successful. My mantra in life is, “You live the life you create.” Anything that happens in your life is a result of your own decisions and what happens inside your head. Only you are capable of creating the life you want. And I firmly believe that every single person can create the life they want. One only has to decide.
