If you would have to introduce yourself in a gist, what all will you include about yourself?
I'm Karishma Shaikh, a creative Wardrobe Stylist & Celebrity Fashion Consultant based in Mumbai. I believe that fashion is one of the purest forms of self-expression. Styling is my escape from the mundane. My portfolio encompasses a multitude of media, ranging from high-end fashion editorial to red carpet appearances, and extensive commercial work. I also act as a personal stylist and consultant for many of Bollywood’s top A-list stars and personalities.
What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?
I had been working with fashionable starlets like Katrina Kaif, Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and much more. From styling my clients in naked dresses to color pops, from denim staples to 90s fashion and posts of my own personal OOTDs, I always wanted my Instagram to be a look book for fresh fashion!
How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?
I think the simplest way to denote this difference is: Almost all bloggers are influencers. Not all influencers are bloggers. There is a much larger overlap with bloggers because most of the women have achieved influencer status through their blogs. To simplify it more a blogger is someone who manages a blog. A blogger maintains their own website from which they publish their own original content. They create valuable, informative content. Also, a blogger is not necessarily an influencer. Bottom line: A blogger is someone with a website where they host a blog and publish their own original, valuable content.
Influencers use multiple platforms to motivate their followers to purchase products and services from brands and companies they are working with. An influencer can either start a trend or follow a trend; the more significant thing is that they can convince their audience to spend money on that specific trend.
What do you think influences consumer behavior?
There are a lot of factors in fact. But there these three important factors which I think influences consumer behavior.
Personal factors – A person’s interests and opinions. These will be affected by demographics such as age, gender, culture, profession, background, and so on.
Psychological factors – Everybody’s response to a marketing campaign will be based on their perceptions and attitudes. A person’s ability to comprehend information, their perception of their need, their attitude, will all play a part.
Social factors – Peer groups, from family and friends to social media influence. This factor also includes social class, income, and education level.
Your opinion on Instagram contemplating removing likes option for posts.
To me, the benefits far outweigh any negatives. Likes have long been a measure of success and are used as a guide for creatives to see what is working and what is not. But I also feel there will be a bigger impact on how fewer likes can hurt motivation and, sometimes, self-esteem. If Instagram does away with likes altogether, the way brands will partner with influencers will also likely change. I believe the Instagram test of exploring the removing of likes would be a welcome change that all users could appreciate.
Which is your favorite book and why?
The Alchemist by Paul Coelho
It is a story, but it is so much more than just that. This book made me believe in signs and omens. No, not the superstitious ones, but the ones that nature and life uncover as you travel on your chosen path. More than anything else, this book taught me to believe, and how important it is to believe.
What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
My idea of success is living a happy life surrounded by those that I love and having the freedom to do what I love.
Mantra- I would say never settle for less, do what makes you happy, and do it with all your heart.
