1. Tell us more about your background and journey?
Hello, I'm Sreerag Bharathan from Kerala. Apart from the art of singing, I'm a Law Student too. I'm originally trained in classical music from the age of eight. The basics of the art of singing was taught to me by one of my mum's friends. Later on I grew more fond of singing and decided to pursue it for the time being.
2. When did you first decided you wanted to pursue music and how did you start?
It all just happened, to be honest. I always enjoyed singing and I still do everytime. Right now I'm part of a band called Gandharvaas.
3. Who is your favorite artist and why?
I'm a big Mehdi Hassan fan. It’s one voice I can listen to for days and nights together; summer, monsoon or winter, you name it. He has it all - the depth, enunciation, nuances, variation and above all expression of free flowing poetry. For me, the ghazal legend Mehdi Hassan has been a passion, an obsession, the subject of a biography or research thesis I may never write.
4. Can you throw some light on opportunities one get as a singer?
There are so many opportunities out there for a singer in today's world. Social media platforms always act favourable for a singer (any artist) nowadays. It helps you get your content out there in public ( one can market oneself way better now )
You can always guide other aspiring singers out there with the experience you have earned from all those years.
5. Is format training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?
Yes, One can improve the way they sing by themselves (there are so many online tutors out there who will help you grow ).But it is always better to get trained under an expert/guru because one would always get the benefit of clarifying their doubts and so can pilot themselves in the right direction.
6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring artists?
Keep singing , ALWAYS .
Keep those vocal chords busy .
Keep trying out new styles / genres that interest you whenever you get time. Polishing yourself will always lead to betterment.
7. Which is your favorite book and why?
My all-time favourite book is "Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard" by Kiran Desai because it resonates with old-world charm and new-world noises.
