1. Tell us more about your background and journey.

My name is Ishita Sharma and I am from Delhi. Currently, I am doing my graduation from Delhi University and also preparing for BFA entrance. Honestly, I was never into paintings or arts as a kid. I was always indulged in dance but in 9th standard, I opted fine arts.

Gradually I developed an interest in arts and it became part of my daily schedule. My school teachers helped and encouraged me a lot. And from the past two years, my paintings are selected in exhibition of DAV United. Plus I also started my art account @art_n_innovation_  last year which is going good.

2. When did you decide you wanted to be a painter/illustrator?

I always dreamt of becoming a fashion designer when I was around 10-11 yrs but I somewhere had one thing in my mind that I am interested more in sketching then stitching. But when I opted for fine arts, it was clear that I will opt it as my career.

3. Is it a financially stable career?

It actually depends on what one wants to do. If a person wants to open his/her own gallery it is very difficult to establish and it requires huge capital investment.  But one can also get employed in various fields of professor, teacher, illustrator, graphic designer, etc which could be more financially stable careers.

4. Who is your favourite illustrator and why?

My favourite illustrator is M.F Hussain . I am really fascinated by his paintings and his journey.  His execution of bold, vibrantly coloured narrative paintings with cubism technique. My favourite is the Mother Teresa series.  And I always look up to his work and style.

5. Where do you get inspired to create art?

Inspiration can come from anywhere and anything. From another artist, dancer, nature, etc. One of the most important aspects is that you get inspired by the things you love or the things you get satisfaction from. When I draw something and if I am not loving it or getting satisfied I would not be able to draw it more. So it's important that you should love what you are doing.

6. What does your typical day look like?

My day is as simple as anyone else. Waking up, getting ready for college, coming back, some dance practice and some art and craft.

But in lockdown, many things changed from playing, cooking, spending time with family. Also, lockdown helped me to learn new art forms. I am learning various Indian art forms. Also, I have been able to watch and learn from many other artists.

7. What piece of advice would you like to give to future aspiring illustrators?

Practising every day and everything is the key. I have learned one thing that one should not stick to one medium or one form. Try different mediums and different forms as it helps to learn things more effectively.

One could find many difficulties and criticize but one should not quit. Always keep trying, learning and growing.

8. Which is your favourite book and why?

Actually, I am not a book person. I had read a few novels and books suggested by friends and family but my favourite book is "The Secret". I loved this book because it taught me a lot of things about my lifestyle .

The main reason for liking this book was it is very practical about life. Also the way everything is explained it helped me to learn many things.
