1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I’m an adventurous person who loves traveling and playing tennis, and it has been that way for the past 15 years or so. I have a very close-knit family with one sister who’s younger than me. Visakha Vidyalaya is My alma mater and it’s probably the most colorful 13 years of my life.

I then graduated from Middlesex University, London, and in the meantime started working as a media personality for several years. However, with time, my career path took a turn and I joined SriLankan Airlines in 2014 as a flight attendant.

And that’s how travel_bug_diary came about. More about that in your next question. I tied the knot with Dhyan Ranatunga at the beginning of this year and we have begun another exciting journey together. That pretty much sums up my background.

2. What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?

As mentioned above, travel_bug_diary came to life once I started working as a flight attendant at SriLankan. I simply wanted to share my travel experiences on a larger platform and it surprisingly went quite well.

I love to share stories about how I travel to foreign countries to explore their cultural heritage and even their unique cuisines. That's what my Instagram is all about.

3. What does travel feel like to you?

Travel is a lifestyle for me. I feel quite lost without traveling. Traveling is like an adrenaline rush for me, to be very frank. It’s a part of who I am.

4. Being a travel photographer, how would you spice up your traveling portfolio to avoid monotonous photos?

I’m not a professional photographer, but I do try my best to click the best picture and to capture the true beauty of the surroundings. I usually enhance the colors of my photographs so it has a certain kind of attraction to it.

5. What do you think influences consumer behavior?

It varies from an individual to the product really. On a social media platform, an individual has the capability to change a consumer's mind about absolutely anything. It can be a product or even a place.

On the other hand, a product or a place can change consumer behavior depending on how modern and up to date it might be. A lot of consumer behavior these days is dependent on trends.

6. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?

I believe success comes from happiness and by being content with who you are. It doesn’t matter what achievements I have in life if I’m never happy about it. So my success comes from happiness.

7. How can someone become a successful social media influencer?

For one, I do not call myself an influencer. If someone else does, that’s completely at their discretion. It takes a lot to be an influencer. To influence someone isn’t as easy as it looks. Of course, people call everyone with a large following an influencer these days, but I don’t see it that way.

Do something for the betterment of others and be the change you want to see in the rest of us and maybe then, one can be a worthy and successful influencer.
