You Can Make a Career Out of It If You Have Something Unique to Showcase - Karan Singhal

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I work as a Creative Head in an Event Management company in Gurgaon. I started this food blogging journey in March 2017. When I started I never had an idea that I will be standing at this point where I am currently. I love food and this passion of mine drove me to come into this field with zero knowledge.

I started clicking pictures of food items and started posting about it on my Instagram Handle. Gradually people started liking my content. When I was on 22K followers, my account got hacked. I did not loose hope and created a new one (I am glad I did that). The hacker contacted me on the new page and after many arguments, he gave back my original account (obviously not for free) and since then the journey has been great. Many hurdles came by but it could not hamper my passion and love for food.

2. Which is your favorite cuisine and dish?

My favorite cuisine has to be North Indian and favorite dish on any given day has to be a well cooked Dal Makhni.

3. Should food blogging be just a passion or can it become a regular career?

Well to be honest, when I started I never even thought to make it a career, but yes you can make a career out of it if you have something unique to showcase to the audience. If you love food and you have passion to do whatever it takes to get that right click or to write that blog.

4. Which restaurants/food joints would you recommend to food lovers?

The restaurants that I personally like are not well known. For butter chicken I prefer eating from a takeaway shop namely Waterfront Grill in Geeta Colony, East Delhi. For Dal Makhni, I would recommend Indus Flavor (North Delhi) or Rajshree (lal quarter, east delhi).

So I would say every place has its own charm as far as food is concerned, it is very difficult to say that this restaurant is the best. But yes you can say that this dish is best of that particular restaurant.

5. What makes you appreciate a particular dish or a restaurant and talk about it on your blog?

For me food comes on top in rating a restaurant. As it can cover all the flaws of a restaurant. I would love to go again and again to the same restaurant that has slow service but serves amazing food.

6. Is there a dish you particularly associate yourself with?

Well there is nothing to associate myself to. But yes, my home made Aloo Ghobi is one dish that I can smell the fragrance from a kilometer easily (a fan of Aloo Ghobi)

7. Which is your favorite book and why?

I love reading Crime Thrillers and Fiction and my favorite authors are James Patterson and Amish Tripathi. I loved reading Shiva Trilogy and Ram Chandra series. It just mesmerizes me to see how the author has portrayed the mythological character and mixed it with a classy modern touch.
