Here are 6 Tips to Improve Persuasive Writing!

Everybody wants to convince their readers to agree with them. It's about taking a stand on an issue where you convince them to your point of view.

Persuasive writing can be in the form of an ad or blog. You can even find this kind of topic in journalism where one person is trying to convince the audience.

If you want to persuade someone with your idea, you need to research a lot and work on word choice. The reason is that “you have to present what they want” to make the reader agree with you.

What Is Persuasive Writing?

It is a form of writing where you are logically presenting your argument with your own emotion to convince the reader to your point of view.

Think of it as the opposite of an argumentative essay because there you are presenting both sides, and readers have the chance to choose which idea they want to support. But here you are favoring one side while attacking the other side.

I have already mentioned that persuasive writing is everywhere. Bloggers are trying to show that “they should only trust them and their idea.” Companies are influencing people to buy the product that they offer. Media nowadays is also using to increase their audience base and to eliminate the competition.

It may be everywhere, but only a few people out there have mastered this craft of writing. It is not as simple as sharing an opinion on something. So, let's look at a few tips that can help you master it.

1. Pick a Topic You’re Passionate About

It will be easier to persuade someone if you are writing something that you genuinely believe. And if you have been given a chance to choose a topic, try picking up the one you like most.

You may have to research a little about it but it will be easier than writing about a random topic.

2. Know Your Audience

When you are trying to convince the reader to believe in you or agree with you, you first have to know about them. And after you already know which kind of audience you are targeting then you can write something that relates to them.

For example- you are a content writer in a “men grooming” company, so you know most of your readers will be male. So now you have a sense of idea on what you have to write to persuade them.

3. Hooks the Reader’s Attention

A good writer always presents opinions with a perfect statement of his point of view. You can start with a fact or any other evidence that states or support your thesis. You need to give hints to your reader about your article and what it’s about. And if they are interested in reading after that, then know they are on your side.

4. Research Both Sides

If you want the reader to agree with your views, you must understand what you disagree with. You can write your point of view, but you also need to counter-attack the other side. Write a convincing argument even on any questions that readers may ask.

5. Be Empathetic and Emphasize Your Point

A reader may have a better chance to believe in you if they feel that they can somehow relate to you. Showing your emotion to the audience is essential as providing a logical explanation to them.

Say what you want, but try to add humor to it or exaggerate your point so that you can guide your audience to your side even though your words cannot be taken seriously.

You can say, “it tastes like heaven.” We all know that’s not true or even remotely possible, but you send a clear message to your audience that this is the best product in a world. Read more about it here.

6. Repeat Yourself

Try to repeat yourself on what you want to say. I am telling you this because reminding the reader, again and again, is a great way to keep them attached to your idea. Find different ways to make your point by using metaphors or using any examples.

It is a handy writing skill that every writer should understand and follow. It can be a compelling skill with the ability to influence people. So always try to remember these tips that will help you in the future as well.
