Honest Book Review: The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

Rhonda Byrne, an Australian TV writer and producer, has made a name with her riveting book, The Secret. Atria Books and Beyond Words Publishing published its first copy in the year 2006 and it has gained a lot of popularity since then.

The book is a proponent because it brings back the importance of the universe. The secret focuses on living beings and tells them that they can achieve anything and everything they want to. It gives importance to the individual spirit and says that it has the power to achieve with the help of the world.

Through this composition, Rhonda Byrne has shared her visualization of the world we are living in with the law of attraction. This book has no age restrictions and is meant for any age group to use the Secret in different facets of existence to ignite the inner power and lead a joyous life.

The Secret is a thought-provoking, self-help book. It gives hope and can improve the thought process. Although, it seems a bit delusional as well. It mostly focuses on the ‘law of attraction’. It says that energy attracts energy. But it would be a hoax if I said it was one hundred percent scientific. Anything objective is scientific. Having a definite result is scientific. ‘Law’ is definite and it can be proved. The Law of attraction, however, fails to put out any definite absolute result. It is a guide to lead a more peaceful life. There is a huge buzz about The Secret as it fondles with human emotions and touches it deeply.

Title of the Book

Unlike most books, The Secret grabbed many eyeballs with its title and cover. It is a bit mysterious and one has to guess what it is about. It could be a work of fiction or non-fiction.  Although, I would say it’s neither. It seems delusional on its claims.

About the Book

The “Secret” in this book is the law of attraction itself. It says that positive thoughts attract positive things. It has its implications but is it a universal truth? No. Ice melts down if the temperature is below 0 degrees. Nevertheless, it teaches important lessons of life and gives the readers to pick the right things in life and thus, improving it.

There are three other sequels of this book- The Power, The Teenager, and The Magic.

So, what does the book say about achieving goals?

Deciding What You Want to Achieve

The human brain processes several thousand thoughts every single day and to be successful, there’s only one that we need to pick and put our mind through and through till we achieve it. Picking it, although is the foremost step.

Asking the Universe to Help You

In this book, our mind is referred to as magic in this entire world. The author asks us to make the most out of the universe by asking it to help you in attaining the things you want. It says if you ask freely and openly, you’ll receive it back. It talks about the universe being connected to our friends, family, mind, and everyone associated with us. This is what means by asking the universe. In the book Alchemist, Paolo Coelho says that if you really want something, the entire universe conspires for it to be true.

Pretend You Have Already Achieved It

It is said that if you are a part of the success, if you live the reality you want, you work for it to be true. If an actor thinks he is an actor, he feels it that way and gets things done. If a medicine student thinks she is a doctor, she will make sure that no patient is harmed because of her casualty. That, in turn, will make her a better doctor because she'll put more effort into memorizing and learning the subject as she masters it.

Key Takeaways

  • Thoughts become things.
  • There is no such thing as a hopeless situation. Every single circumstance of your life can change.
  • There is a truth deep down inside of you that has been waiting for you to discover and that truth is this: you deserve all good things life has to offer
  • Your power is in your thoughts, so stay awake. In other words, remember to remember.
