My Three Values Are Kindness, Vulnerability, and Bravery - Sharan Velauthan

There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.

1. Tell us more about what you do and what led you to speak on the TEDx platform.

I am a mental health advocate and content storyteller. I spread messages of positivity and kindness on platforms such as Instagram. I focus on relatable content on platforms with so much noise.

From February 2019 to around October I worked hard on different goals such as better mental health awareness and sustainability initiatives. I was able to travel to different parts of Australia to facilitate workshops on personal branding and social media.

During this time, my mentor showed me the TEDx event and suggested I apply. With his help and motivation, I applied. A month later I got the call. I was ecstatic and in disbelief. But also a great reminder that I have stayed authentic and true in my messaging and work.

2. What kind of content do you create and when did you begin?

I create real content with a focus on my personal story. My three values are Kindness, Vulnerability, and Bravery. Using these three values I create raw and relatable content in hopes to help one other person out there.

Based on this mission I create content not based on what would get the most likes, but what would help one other person out there.

3. What is Ready Steady Go Kids International all about?

It was my first casual job I got in Melbourne! I coach 2-6-year-olds on different sports. It is honestly one of the best jobs, to see the nervous kid become a superstar in a few weeks based on our coaching is the best feeling! I would go as far as to say these kids have taught me more than most jobs and people.

4. What does success look like to you?

Happy. Success looks like happiness to me. And that is not based on how much money I have, the car I drive, the countries I travel to, or the clothes I wear.

Happiness to me is that I am genuinely happy with who I am and what I do, my single mum is happy, my best friends are happy, and the people who support me and my work are happy.

If I can achieve that, I am the most successful than I could ever imagine.

5. Which is your favorite book and why?

Easily the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho! I recently read it and it is absolutely beautiful. It somehow puts you in the shoes of the lead character even though the circumstances and stories are different there is reliability. And the learning from the books is learning I will take with me for the rest of my life.

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”

6. What impact do you want to make in the world?

I think people have grand plans to change the world, But sometimes the world is just one person. So if I can die knowing I made an impact in someone's life that led them to be the happiest version of themselves, that is all I could ever want.
