I remember working at a café to put together sufficient money to buy my very first DSLR in 2012. I have always been passionate towards everything I do - may it be Engineering (which I don't know why I did) or Travelling (which is a part of my soul).
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
The only son to my parents, currently residing in a small village in Goa. I have always been attracted to doing creative stuff like art, music, dance, photography.
I remember working at a café to put together sufficient money to buy my very first DSLR in 2012. I have always been passionate towards everything I do - may it be Engineering (which I don't know why I did) or Travelling (which is a part of my soul).
I am currently working as a Digital Marketer which helps me pay off my gadgets, balances my travel expenses and understands my need for travel & is the kind of job that has helped me grow as "Wander with Kevin".
2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?
I have always been an extrovert and travelling and wandering is something that makes me feel alive. I know that when I'm happy, I want to travel, when sad, I want to travel - so no matter what the situation is, travel has always been an integral part of my life.
But just 2 years ago, I realised that this is something that I loved doing and something that made me feel happy and satisfied. I started exploring new places - solo or with friends. It later became an addiction.
I realised that I just couldn't stay at home over the weekends and I started making plans to travel out of the state. I started populating my Instagram with wonderful travel pictures and making travel vlogs. Little did I realise that this would be a turning point in my life - people started loving my content and videos.
I started loving the fact of sharing the content of my travel in the form of videos and articles, and this is how I ventured into Travel Blogging/Vlogging. It's been more than a year now that I have been vlogging/blogging and sharing my content over the internet to people who wish to travel virtually.
I think this is my happy place and I've finally found it.
3. Is vlogging and YouTube content creation a financially sustainable career?
Well, I am more into Blogging than Vlogging, but yes, looking at how the world is moving deeper and deeper into the digital era, Vlogging and Blogging is definitely a career where you can earn as long as you are dedicated and consistent.
It is not like a 9-5 job where you shut down your laptop at 5 and it's the end of the day. It requires more than just 9 hours - hard work and hustle - this would count Blogging/Vlogging as a financially sustainable career.
4. Who is your favourite creator and why?
My Favourite creator is Aakash Malhotra (@wanderwithsky)... I've seen his entire travel journey from the beginning, his hustle and hard work, his passion towards travel which inspires me even today to never give up.
Moreover, he has some wonderful & authentic travel content and is a really humble person. I'm 'Wander With Kevin' because I have been inspired by 'Wander With Sky'.
5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?
I've also looked upon various digital platforms to take inspiration and see how people create such awesome content. Apart from this, I've always tried to portray something new to my audience, something that they would love to see- may it be videos, Instagram content or articles.
I often spend time reading, watching a lot of travel & motivational videos on YouTube which helps me churn out wonderful content for my audience.
6. What does your typical day look like?
If it's a weekday, I wake up in the morning, get done with my breakfast, I start my work (Digital marketing) and by late evenings, I head out for a ride - mostly solo. I am a night owl who stays up late editing my videos or working on my content.
However, if it's the weekend, it's a bit different. It is very rare to find me at home over the weekends. I'm always headed out to explore new places.
7. Which is your favourite book and why?
"The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck" by Mark Manson.
I used to always worry about "what will people think?" and it stopped me from doing so many things that I love and being myself. After reading this book, things changed for me.
I changed my perspective on how the world looks at me. It helped me realise "no what you do, people will always judge you... so do it anyways" I think this is my mantra to happiness and success.
8. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?
Do not stop Dreaming! Dream big and work hard towards achieving it. SUCCESS depends on the second letter (U).
Understand that every baby step is a sign to something big – there is nothing stronger than YOU, and only YOU can make yourself what you dream to become. Don't let anyone's judgement step on your dreams.
Success needs 3 elements - Hard work, Consistency and Believing in Yourself. If you can master these 3, you are a winner!
