My inspiration is my surroundings and my loved ones. A lot of things around motivate me to draw.
1. Tell us more about your background and journey.
My name is Ambica Manepalli. I am a Textile Chemist by profession and an artist by passion! I am originally from Mumbai, India and currently based in California, USA. I had a passion for art right from a very young age, but could not continue because of my studies. After I started working, I got back to painting as a hobby.
In 2019, I came across mandala art while browsing through Instagram for inspiration. I decided to give it a try and totally fell in love with it and haven’t stopped drawing mandalas since then.
I even started a separate Instagram account to showcase my artworks and have received tremendous love from people all around the world! I also started my YouTube channel recently!
My journey as an artist has been of self-discovery more than anything else. I love to experiment with new art mediums and styles! Apart from mandalas, I work on watercolours, acrylics, fluid art and currently learning resin art! I try to add a pop of colour in most of my artworks and cheer up everyone around me!
2. Who is your favourite artist and why?
Aarti Amonkar, Karishma Shrivastav and Zaneena Nabeel are my most favourite artists! I love the way they bring art to life and inspire hundreds of artists all over the world! I just love to glance through their feed and get mesmerized by their gorgeous artworks!
3. Is it a financially stable career?
It has its own financial hurdles and I am still exploring various options to sell my artworks. There are numerous options like Etsy, commission artworks, Facebook marketplace, Instagram, Shopify, conducting exhibitions, etc. It just depends on how we market and showcase our artworks!
4. Where do you get inspired to create art?
My inspiration is my surroundings and my loved ones. A lot of things around motivate me to draw. I started my page to showcase my artworks and when I look back, I get inspired to draw even better. I also get inspired by so many creative artists on Instagram and especially my family & friends who support me constantly.
5.What kind of book do you prefer to read?
I love reading crime and thriller stories. I am currently reading Memories of Midnight by Sidney Sheldon.
6.What piece of advice would you like to give to the future aspirants?
✓My advice to all aspiring artists is to practice regularly, no matter what type of medium or style you work on and just enjoy the process!
✓It is really important to stay focussed and not forget the main reason you started to draw.
✓Also, do not compare yourself with other artists, but compare with yourself!
✓Get inspired and recreate, but do not copy!
-✓Do not get disheartened by the numbers, but try to engage with other like-minded artists.
