How to Feel Connected and Valued at Work?

Imagine a scenario: An employee named Rahul arrives at work on his 8th anniversary and finds some sticky notes, letters, and gift cards on his desk. The notes are from his manager acknowledging his anniversary and congrats him for his work and hard work.

The connection is the most important component in a productive and efficient working environment. Connected teams will be more productive than any other team. They can do a collaboration, healthy working relationships, and knowledge sharing. So, the more we are connected as a team, the more productive and effective the working environment will be. You can know more about the importance of making connections in the workplace here.

Every organization is also taking care of its employees in many forms like health, loan, traveling, and so on. Everyone talks about building a relationship with customers, I say you should build it with the employee first. Employees are the first priority for every organization. If the employees are not happy with the organization, this will totally impact the production of it.

I think the main role of the manager is to make employees happy and give them a good working place. Most of the time we have differences that there is a communication gap between employees and their respective managers. You should be free to ask anything to your manager and vice versa.

What Can a Manager Do?

1. Regular Interaction

In many organizations, I have noticed there are regular or weekly interactions between employees and their managers. In that period anyone can discuss anything related to the issues facing while working. I think this is a great idea and the best possible way to reduce the communication gap between both parties.

2. Feedback

The second most important thing according to me is feedback. Feedback should be like a sandwich, two positive feedback inside which negative feedback should be mentioned. So that employees should not feel disappointed. Feedback should be regarding the areas in which they have to work harder and get themselves prepared for the next challenge.

3. Growth Opportunities

Managers should always give growth opportunities for every employee. So that they will grow more in a particular field and have a successful career. Managers should discuss the strengths and weaknesses of their employees with them, and give the work accordingly so that no difficulty should be faced by employees.

4. Offer Flexibility

Punctuality should be mandatory in every field, but exceptions should be considered. If in any case, the employee is not able to come to the office on his / her shift timings, you need to discuss it and bring out the best possible solutions to let them make amends accordingly. Don’t make any false statement to anyone so that your team might suffer by this. You can learn more about making your employees valued here.

5. Good Feedback

According to me, the most important thing is feedback. By this, we can analyze the strength and weaknesses. We should always be enhancing our strengths and work on our weaknesses. Feedback tells what are the areas where we can build our future and make goals of life. We should always give correct feedback to the concerned person.

6. Interactive

There should be no communication gap between your team or leader. You have to be interactive among your team. There are many ways of interaction among your team which is very necessary for a healthy relationship between team members and their leader. It is responsible for both the leader and employee that there should be no communication gap between them.

7. Compensation & Benefits

All employees want benefits and compensation for their extra hard work. In most of the organization, employees will be extra for overtime and night shift as well. All of them have many benefits also, like some shopping vouchers, food vouchers, tickets to movies, and many other things.

8. Show Appreciation

Appreciation of work is mandatory. One should always be appreciated for his/ her work, it does not depend on work it depends on how seriously you are going to do the work. I believe that appreciation is always in front of team members so they can also motivate and do their best.

9. Celebrate Work Anniversaries

Work anniversaries is the bond between the organization leader and their colleagues. I also show confidence and how he/she is taking work. Others will also learn from that employee and make their target.

Connection and value is the most important component in a productive and efficient working environment. Connected teams will be more productive than any other team. They can do a collaboration, healthy working relationships, and knowledge sharing. So, the more we are connected as a team, the more productive and effective the working environment will be. This will help the employee as well as the organization to work in a more productive manner. You can read more about it here.
