How to Get Started With Video Editing

Have you just started on a video editing journey? Did you watch an excellent
video on YouTube and wondered how they do it all?

The video editing world might seem a lot when you are just getting started.
There are multiple options out there in terms of editors, and plenty of tutors
exist since it is the Information age. Because of this, it might seem reasonable
for one to get confused about where and how to start.

If you follow these simple and easy steps, you will get a simple footing on the
ground. That is one step close to your dream of becoming a pro at video editing!

1. Figure Out Your System Configurations

This is as simple as it gets. There are plenty of video editing software out there, and while you might have the space for them, your processor and the graphic card might not be able to handle them. So, this is the way in.

While most video editing software require heavy processing and will lead to lags in your system, if it doesn't meet the requirement, software like Filmora 9 would still work and get your work done.

If you plan on buying a new laptop or any other device, check the requirements and look up reviews online. You have to ensure it gives you a smooth editing experience.

2. Find Your Purpose for Editing

Now that you have decided to edit, you must ask yourself why you are learning
this skill. The skillset required will change depending on your reasons to learn.
Do you want to learn how the pros get it done or how your favorite YouTuber
churns out such cool edits? Or do you want to start your channel?

Depending on this, figure out which software you want to pick. Softwares like
Filmora come with lots of presets, and it makes the job easier for a beginner,
but if you're going to learn by picking up each frame apart, that will require
working on software like Premier Pro and many more.

3. Find a Tutor

Yes, video editing is a skill, and as much as hands-on practice you will get, the better you will be at it, but it is always better to start with a tutor for an absolute beginner. It can be an online tutor or even anyone from your circle of friends.

This way, you will avoid spending lots of time figuring out how the basic
software functions. So, if you are starting with new software, it is always an
excellent option to watch a short tutorial that explains most of the stuff.

4. Start Working on a Project

To work directly on a project might seem daunting to most of us, but it is always better to start writing a script and try to make a video and give it direction while editing.

The process of editing can initially be long and frustrating, but the more you get attuned to the behind the scenes part of it, the easier it is to work on future projects.

Write a rough draft of the script. For this, you can look up how a script is written and presented. Try to visualize each scene as it happens and give the video a flow or narrative of some sort.

5. Get Reviews and Critiques From People

Now you have finished working on your first project. Since it is your first one, it is near and dear to your heart, and maybe you are not that happy with your skill level yet, but one thing you must do at this point always is - get reviews from other people.

These people can be your friends, family, or even online strangers. While you had your vision during the creation of the video and correctly understand some shortcomings are just there because of the lack of few things, it is still better to take all the feedback you can get and jot down the points. It is always good to see how a viewer perceives the video.

These points will be the key issues to work on when you are making your next video. Video editing is a constant working process, so feedback is a must part of it.

6. Publish It

If you got your earlier feedback from your friends and family or people, you might know of, but depending on your main objective of learning this skill, you must comply with it.

Don't let the fear of negative feedback from strangers stop you from posting it online. It is a constant process of improving, and this is just the first step in your journey.

Now that you are all set with the essential tips on how to get started, you can put your foot forth and start working on your first project. May the odds be ever in your favor!
