I've dipped my hands in various fields and titles from science to media and even PR and advertising but all that only made me realise my true passion: Content creation. It is something I’d happily do all my life without asking for a day off.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
My journey actually began way before I even knew what subjects I liked in school. All I wanted in life was to be recognised and be an inspiration somehow.
I always wanted to be a trailblazer who followed her dreams.
Having consistent good grades in school, my parents wanted to see me as a doctor. I did take up science but it didn’t work out for me as I was miserably failing. Later, shed rivers to convince my parents to let me take up mass media as journalism also fascinated me.
In this entire process, I was also discovering a side of me who loved fashion and being in front of the camera. I started posting random posts where people had me convinced to start my own blog too.
But this was all as a hobby until a year ago when I started taking this very seriously and that’s also actually when it showed me results. I've dipped my hands in various fields and titles from science to media and even PR and advertising but all that only made me realise my true passion: Content creation something I’d happily do all my life without asking for a day off.
2. What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?
It started as @alfiya_karim_khan posting random outfit photos. While my 800 followers who then convinced me to start a blog, I officially changed my Instagram handle to @trendelitee that showcases modest fashion and more.
It aims to inspire people who find confidence in coverage. Here, I modify fashion to the modest level keeping relevance as my biggest priority.
3. How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?
A blogger is someone who writes a legitimate blog post about anything and everything. A blogger communicates their thoughts and viewpoints through words and pictures.
Whereas, an Instagram influencer is someone who has the credibility to persuade people towards buying a product, service, or anything for that matter through their authenticity.
A blogger can be an influencer but an influencer may or may not be a blogger.
4. Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?
It does take a while to establish yourself in any field, to be honest, and so is the case with Instagram influencing too. You first need to focus on building a community via constant trial and error.
Later, if you understand what your audience wants and deliver the same, you can definitely make a living out of this field.
5. What do you think influences consumer behaviour?
There are a lot of reasons actually. Being a consumer behaviour student, there are multiple factors that can be considered. However, with everything going digital, influencers and bloggers have a major role as they are capable of motivating people to like/dislike a product.
6. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
My life’s mantra has to be that passion > fear. You need to know your passion and be able to choose it over and over again against all your fears.
7. How can someone become a successful social media influencer?
Creativity and consistency are key. With the market being saturated, if you get something new to the table and do it passionately, people would wanna see more of you. Rome wasn’t built in a day and so success doesn't come overnight. You have to believe in your self and trust the process.
Along with that, you need to be your own critique and analyse your content from a third-person perspective. Create what you think you’d love to consume. Also, keep consistency and authenticity in check.
8. Which is your favourite book and why?
I love The Alchemist as it thought me about life and purpose. That everyone has one as yours is just important as anybody’s
