I Try Creating Something New and for That I Try Learning Something New Which Helps Me A lot - Omkar Atul Surve

In 2019 rap scene in India was growing very fast like there were diss tracks there was movie it. This brought out the rapper inside me and I started writing later. I posted my 1st song on Instagram and it got a beautiful response from everyone.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

My name is Omkar Atul Surve aka Beardo Weirdo. I grew up in a middle class Maharashtrian family. I lost my father when I was 1 year old and when I turned 9 year old my mother married for the second time and I didn't like it because the guy my mom chose was not a good person so me my grandmother took a decision to leave my mother's house and we started living with my aunts family my aunt and uncle treated me like their own child. 

Since childhood I loved sports and I dreamed of being a cricketer but later I gave up on cricket because I had fallen in love with Throwball. In Throwball I achieved many trophies, medals and even I made records. But because throwball is not a developed sport one can't earn from it. 

So I started coaching throwball in schools, colleges and also coached women throwball club teams in Mumbai, Vasai, etc. At the start of 2018 everything started going wrong in life I was feeling like a loser, I used to get frustrated everyday and suddenly one when I was scrolling YouTube. 

I went through song by Dino James named loser that was the 1st rap song I loved and from there onwards I started listening to rap songs and went more deep into it. In 2019 rap scene in India was growing very fast like there were diss tracks there was movie it. 

This brought out the rapper inside me and I started writing later. I posted my 1st song on Instagram and it got a beautiful response from everyone. It crossed 11,000 views on Instagram which was a big thing for me. So from there I kept posting rap on Instagram. 

In 2020 I got a offer asking to make song for a Marathi music label but due to lockdown that thing got cancelled it broke my heart but at that time I made a promise to myself that I won't be dependent on labels for my music. I made my own team by adding 2 of my friends. 

One is a videographer who is my school friend named Niket aka Nikofwest and the other one is a music producer who is my neighbour. His name is Nitesh aka NickS. We are very passionate at our work and that's the reason now we have posted 2 songs on my YouTube channel named Beardo Weirdo which is also my stage name.

2. How would you describe your musical style?

I am rapper so my music is hip-hop music and if you go deeper into it. I like many types like I love trap, Rnb, old school, lofi, boom bap, etc. I keep trying many thing to bring out a good song. I also try too use Indian sounds in my music.


3. What are three things you look for when you see an artist play live?

Those things are - 

• How he interacts with his fans or crowd.
• How differently he performance live the song he uploaded online like use of DJ or band.
• How he starts his performance like his entry.

4. Who is your superhero alter-ego and why?

Its Captain America because he is the leader and everyone follows him. He is the decision maker so that's the reason.


5. Where do you find your artistic inspiration?

I try creating something new and for that I try learning something new which helps me alot. And also there are some great rappers from whom I get inspired like Tupac, Eminem, J cole, kendrick Lamar, Logic, Nas, Divine, Dino james.


6. What are your upcoming projects?

There are 2-3 songs I am working on. I can't reveal their names.


7. Which is your favourite book and why?

Actually I don't read books but in future if I feel to read a book it would Chanakya neeti because I am interested in knowing about Chanakya in detail.
