In today’s digital age, there is no lack of opportunity for photographers and creators. Various media agencies are always on the lookout for young and aspiring photographers with a fresh perspective.

1. Tell us about your background and journey?

My name is Stuti Bhadauria and I am a marketing professional and a travel photographer based out of Goa.

I was born and brought up in Gwalior, where I completed my schooling and engineering. After finishing my MBA from Lucknow and working in a travel startup in Delhi for more than 2 years, I moved to Goa in 2015.

Goa has been home ever since. While working for a fitness startup and digital media startup over the last few years, I simultaneously worked towards raising more awareness about Goa which goes beyond beaches and booze, through my photography and stories.

I occasionally take commissioned photography projects focusing around responsible travel, heritage awareness and social impact.

2. How and when did you realize your passion for photography?

Back in 2009, I visited a small hill station called Binsar in Uttarakhand and that’s when I realized my love for photography.

After that trip, I started taking it more seriously. Love for photography eventually turned into a love for our rich heritage and history. For the same reason, I started working with a Delhi-based experiential travel firm in 2013.

Back in the day, the concept of “Heritage Walks” and “Offbeat Explorations” was quite nascent. The combined interest in history and photography helped me look at things from a different perspective and took me to lesser-known nooks and corners of Delhi.

The same passion has taken me all across India on various journeys in search of interesting stories. I have been trying to do the same thing in Goa for the last 5 years!

3. What are some tips you would like to share with amateur photographers?

  • Find a niche and stick to it.
  • Keep clicking, keep learning, keep experimenting.
  • Stop chasing the numbers and don’t just do it “for the gram”.
  • Don’t obsess with the equipment.
  • Try and create your own signature style with which people can identify your work.
Last but not the least: ENJOY THE PROCESS!!

4. What are the important skills one should have to be a successful photographer?

Having a strong knowledge of various editing tools is a must these days, be it photos or videos. Make use of various tutorials online and keep honing your skill.

These days showcasing and promoting your work is quite an essential skill. Marketing is not just for big corporations, it’s useful for small creators as well.

5. What are various opportunities available for aspiring photographers?

In today’s digital age, there is no lack of opportunity for photographers and creators. Various media agencies are always on the lookout for young and aspiring photographers with a fresh perspective.

If 9-5 is not your thing, you can always start creating your own content and showcase it on various digital platforms like Instagram and Youtube. You can even choose a more traditional yet lucrative path of wedding and event photography. It all depends on your interest.

6. Which is your favourite book and why?
I am quite a lot in comics and graphic novels. Difficult to choose one but two of my favourite books are THE SANDMAN by Neil Gaiman and WATCHMEN by Alan Moore. Love both these books for their impressive artwork and timeless storyline.
