My Background Inspires Me to Make Content for My Audience, Especially Punjabi Channel Viewers - Jyot Randhawa

I am Jyot Randhawa. I’ve been creating content since 2016. You can find me as Punjabibeautyonduty on YouTube and Instagram.

1. Tell us about your background and journey

I come from a humble Punjabi farmer family and I completed my education at Panjab University, Chandigarh. Having studied mass communication, I always had a longing to write or create something of my own and the inception of online media gave me a much-needed platform.

I started blogging about my areas of interest like health, beauty, and fashion. Meanwhile, YouTube happened.

2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?

Back during those days, there were lesser YouTube channels and most of them dealt with comedy or makeup. As I didn’t have much interest in both, I thought of sharing my skills and interests with a wider audience.

Therefore, I began making videos for my English/ Hindi channel but later it led to the creation of two more channels in my mother tongue, Punjabi. Today all three of them have shaped into completely different channels and have an entirely different audience. I proudly upload on all three of them regularly.

3. Is vlogging and YouTube content creation a financially sustainable career?

This is a very subjective question and it depends on what income you need to sustain financially. In my transparent opinion, YouTube content creation is a very sustainable proposition should you know your content well and can work around a plan. But having said that, success comes far more later as in any other field.

4. Who is your favorite creator and why?

It takes a good amount of effort and discernment to put "well-made content" in front of the world. I love watching videos that deal with lesser talked about topics and there are some amazing creators who are keeping it simple, real, and yet entertaining.

So if I have to give a name, it’ll be Chris Ulmer of Special Books by Special Kids. His videos have not only motivated me personally to be strong and overcome difficulties with a smile but have taught me to be determined and unique at the professional front too.

5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

I was brought up in a small town and I have seen the reality of middle-class life very closely. So my background inspires me to make content for my audience, especially Punjabi channel viewers.

Apart from that, I try to look into very mundane and common things around to get the right inspiration in order to get the best love of the audience.

6. Which is your favorite book and why?

This is a difficult one! Choosing one amongst many gems is hard. But as I am in the middle of Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harrari, so it's my safest bet. But for self-reliance and an extra positive push, I always reach out to, The Secret.

7. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?

Be genuine and original! Things are changing too fast around us and so will be the interactive platforms and perceptions. So never get swayed by shallow fads and think deep for creating something which is impactful.

Content should drive the internet not vice versa. We already have a plethora of similar videos floating around. So anyone with a different idea is always appreciated. Try to treat this platform as a means to spread knowledge & positivity and not just a monthly money-making machine.
