Aishwarya Ravichandran - Hard Work Is Really Very Important More Than Luck (Playback Singer)

Aishwarya Ravichandran

I didn't actually plan to pursue music. I planned to learn music because I don't come from a media background and I didn't have any such contacts and even don't know how to approach for stage shows. So, this was me like four years back and I didn't have any such idea to take music as my profession. It all happened just like that and within a flashlight everything turned out from Architect to Singer.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I am Aishwarya Ravichandran. I come from a regular family background. Music is my passion. I'm learning music from the age of six and still learning it. I did my higher studies in Architecture in Hindustan University, Chennai.

During that period my focus was fully on my studies and one fine day in my college culturals I performed and the event organizing team who came there told me that my singing was very good and they advised me to do some stage shows.

The moment they said sounded very good for me and I said yes and immediately what they told me is that there are a lot of reality shows going on nowadays and people grab singers from many reality shows and that is how trend is setting up.

So, they requested me to take up many mc shows and in that they told me to sing a few lines whenever I start to host a program so that people would get to know about my talent and would be quite useful for me later.

This is what the organizing committee told me and I wasn't sure whether they would even call back but within a week I got a call and they gave me an event and that is where my life took a toll from architecture to this field where I am.

2. When did you first decide that you wanted to learn music and how did you start?

I didn't actually plan to pursue music. I planned to learn music because I don't come from a media background and I didn't have any such contacts and even don't know how to approach for stage shows. So, this was me like four years back and I didn't have any such idea to take music as my profession. It all happened just like that and within a flashlight everything turned out from Architect to Singer.

The origination of doing my stage shows drived me towards my passion. Initially I started with few events and as instructed I used to sing every time before I start my program. Of course I did many mistakes and they gave me many corrections as to how to handle myself, languages that I need to cover and how to talk to a client.

Slowly, I started doing events for a lot of clients and through that way in one event one of the audience was a producer and he requested me to host for the audio launch of his movie. At first I didn't realize what he was trying to say and after having a deep conversation with him I got to know this would be a good opportunity for me to get a chance to showcase my singing talent.

I asked him for a chance and immediately after two days he called me and asked to attend the audition. They tested my voice and gave me an opportunity to sing in his movie but that film hasn't been released till now but that was a great start for me.

From then I started my journey and I used to go to that music composers studio everyday to see how they compose, sing, handling the mike and everything I used to case study and that took me really for one and a half years to study all these.

After that I slowly started to create my own demo videos and send it to people via face book because that was the only source for me that time as I didn't have any direct contacts and luckily at least seven out of ten reply back and I went and attended few auditions and that is how I started my music journey.

So far I have sung in seven movies and last year I received a award in Mirchi music award for 'Dear Comrade' Telugu movie 'Kadalalle' song and this is how I've started and I have come across five percent in pursuing my passion.

3. Who is your favorite artist and why?

I have a lot of artists of my favorites but to mention a few they are,
  • Bombay Jayshree mam for her unique voice as her songs would be easily recognized when she sing
  • Shweta Mohan for her magnetic and blissful voice and she is trend setting for todays generation
  • Benny Dayal for her energetic and peppy voice
  • Also I like Naresh Iyer magical voice, he is also a very good friend of mine and I used to listen to lot of his songs
When it comes to composing my all time favorite is
  • Vidya Sagar
  • Yuvan Shankar Raja and
  • Anirudh.

4. Is format training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?

Well, I am undergoing training from the age of six and still training myself. But in some cases it is of course required because you will have someone to tell you how to shape up your voice. If you are seeing You tube and then singing means you won't be able to gather much knowledge.

In spite of this there are lot of singers who are like born singers who sing amazingly without any training and learning but there are few techniques which you can learn from someone who knows more than you which would be always good in shaping you even more quick and even more well. That is my opinion.

5. What advice would you like to give to future and budding artists?

I'm not a person who gives advice and also not in that category as well. So, instead of telling advice what I have come across and what I can tell them if we can tell in that way. Even I have a long way to go.

As far as I have come Hard work is really very important more than luck and also Patience. You should not lose patience at any cost. On the other hand Perseverance is also must. So keep practicing. Keep working hard and definitely you will reach whatever you want.

6. Tell us more about your experience working as a dubbing artist and what are the challenges you face?

I'm not a great dubbing artist and all. I have just started dubbing for ads and movies. So, I don't have big experience in that line but it is also an interesting line to work on because in singing you show emotions and feelings in the same way you should do that in dubbing as well.

So, that's also a great experience and I'm actually starting to like this field. It is so interesting and I have to see a lot in dubbing and when we say challenges of course, yes, you have to bring in the emotion while you talk. It is not like how we generally talk and it is totally different.

We should put in a lot of effort and emotions in it. So, it is quite challenging and also the language is very important. We have to know it because we have to see people in the screen and give the lip sink as well. Everything is there so language plays a key role here. This field is very challenging but also a good field to work on.
