Vikhyat Srivastava - We Should All Be Practical For Today But Not For Tomorrow, Tomorrow Needs To Be Hopeful (Writer, Director, Producer)

What I've personally realised is that, if we're dedicated, patient and honest enough to our profession, then even if we may not be the masters or the pro players in the field, we'll sail through, it will do wonders for you.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

Hi, my name is Vikhyat Srivastava. I am a Writer, Director, Producer. I am perusing my Bachelor's of Arts specialisation in Direction from Whistling Woods International. My dad is in Civil Services and my mom's a Businesswoman

2. How and when did you realize your passion for creating films?

I've always loved watching films, I still remember after watching Titanic, it was the first time ever I realised that there's a job called 'direction' James Cameron was the first director, I ever googled !! He's one of my all-time favourite directors.

It was after my 10th standard, that I really started exploring about the idea of what goes behind the camera, and what it takes to make a film.

I started exploring by using my dad's old camcorder, Agra has a rich architectural heritage, so I started making real short - documentaries revolving around the monuments and exploring the beautiful city of Agra.

3. What are the important skills one should have to be a successful filmmaker?

One skill, well I feel. Film is an art, Filmmaking is a talent. To be able to make a film is Talent Management.

Courage, Determination, Perseverance, is something that needs to be there in every field of life.

What I've personally realised is that, if we're dedicated, patient and honest enough to our profession, then even if we may not be the masters or the pro players in the field, we'll sail through, it will do wonders for you.

4. Which film(s) do you appreciate the most for their cinematography?

They're a lot of films, that I really love, SLB's Devdas, Yash Ji's Veer - Zaara, Rockstar, La La Land, Titanic, I feel Titanic is one of those films which given the opportunity I would really wanna make.

Titanic is just brilliant, I mean that's the kind of romance, love story I really wanna live. It’s sheer brilliance, filmmaking at it’s best. You jump, I jump...Always

5. Where does your inspiration lie?

My inspiration lies in my heart, so if my heart is in or up for it, then that's the most exciting and the most beautiful thing in the world for me, "Love is Life". I like dealing in extremes, either it's love or life, love maybe stupid but it's not false, at least that is what I hope for.

My inspiration lies in contributing my 110% in whatever it is, I feel that's how it should be, quality over quantity.

6. What has been the biggest learning from your job?

I feel art is life and life is an art in both aspects of life. You can't be sure of what might happen, you may be prepared but you never know.

"You never know", this has become a mantra for me now. So you might as well dream the biggest of all the dreams. "This is what I usually tell myself "Vicky.....You never know".

Just "dream big". We should all be practical for today but not for tomorrow, tomorrow needs to be hopeful.

"Isaan ko aaj mein practical rehna chahiye kal mein nahi".

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

My favourite book is Atomic Habits by James Clear. It's a fantastic book about building and deconstructing habits. It's all about how small things over a period of time can add to incredible results. It's a must-read, highly recommend.
