Imagine a World Without America

America’s Reply to Its Haters

It seems as though the whole of the world dislikes America. And there are those, of course, who would prefer to destroy us, ranging from fascist religious fanatics to socialist and communist believers, to the Americans-who-hate-America crowd, blaming us for all the ills of the world.

To what end? Their reasons may vary, but it cannot to better the lot of human civilization, unless of course you happen to believe the world would be somewhat better off without us and with someone else in charge. But, would anyone really be in a better off position if we didn't exist?

Without a doubt, if America was erased from its existence, the world would be very different from what it is today. I’m still unaware that if those who hate and envy America so much and would like see us destroyed have ever thought even a little beyond the ends of their noses.

A Glimpse of What the World Would Look Like Sans America

Without America, there would be no United Nations. The U.S. was instrumental in forming the United Nations and currently finances around 22% of its budget. So, without our financial support, the UN and its various subsidiary organizations would be far smaller institutions, if they could exist at all.

Without America, England, France, along with the rest of Europe would effectively be a part of Germany, repressed and enslaved. Also, Europe, and a large part of the world might be surviving under the repressive thumb of communism.

Without America, Asia would be ruled by the Japanese and democracy would not have been established in Japan, which was historically a monarchy and ruled by its military alongside the emperor.

Without America, almost twenty-five million residents would be living under the authoritarian and cruelly oppressive Taliban regime in Afghanistan, and another vast majority of millions of Iraqis would have to continue to exist with the vicious dictatorship of none other than Saddam Hussein.

USA’s Major Contributions to Mankind

Without America, scientific inventions and advances that range from the computer to cotton gin or even the Internet would have ceased to exist.

A very short list includes the following (in no particular order) - Tractors, nylon, the light bulb, the steamboat, vulcanized rubber, the desktop computer, the supercomputer (Cray)

The people in many of the nations who have benefited from our foreign aid would be living in far worse circumstances.

We haven't been able to solve every single problem, and according to some critics, we don't give nearly enough, but we have and continue to try to help alleviate many of the worst issues in various parts of the world.

The education of tens of thousands of foreign students who have come to America to study engineering, science, and medicine wouldn’t have happened. We have produced more highly trained and educated foreign students than any other country in the world. And where would the world be without them?

The Close Nexus With Economies of the World

In the absence of America, the economies of most nations around the world would be much poorer. In 2005, the United States’ trade imbalance with China alone went up to $202 billion.

Where would the Chinese, who are beginning to challenge us for having the world's biggest economy, sell their goods and services, or the Japanese sell their cars, were it not for our markets?

And India, which is also one of the world's most rapidly expanding economies, how would they step towards liberalization if we were not here to assist them and where would they find a market like ours and be in a position to sell their goods and services?

The list of trading partners or nations who rely on the American markets in order to sustain as well as grow their own economies is endless.

The notable examples within our own hemisphere which can be listed are, of course, Canada and Mexico, In spite of all the irritants and points of contention with both of these nations.

So Why Be Envious of the USA?

All American accomplishments have dramatically and most certainly changed the world, including the example of a society based on diversity and tolerance for others, the rule of law, as exemplified with the help of peaceful transition of government and ruler ship following fair elections, among others.

The evaluation of all the impacts of the many thousands of scientific, medical and technological advances made by Americans should be left to you.

Without them, this world would be an entirely different place indeed: Untold numbers of people would have died or been crippled by disease, afflictions like smallpox or polio would be rampant all over the world.

Technological advances like computers and the Internet would probably not even exist. Just dwell upon the ways these inventions have changed the world in just a few years. The list of achievements in its brief history that have improved human life from almost every perspective is incessant.

We may be many of the things people around the world accuse us of being: too rich for our own good, arrogant, ill mannered, spoilt and self-centered. But we should also be credited for being the most selfless and generous nation and the world would be a worse place without our presence.

Those who hate us so much might just want to give their disdain. Our request to them is to give it a little more thought and decide if they really don't want us around. My question to them is how would they manage without us?

Remember the popular admonition, "Be careful what you wish for, you might actually get it."
