It all started when the media was burying Bollywood under the outsiders-insiders game after the sudden demise of Sushant Singh Rajput, as there were a lot of claims that no one gives respect or platforms to those who don’t belong from a well known Bollywood family like the Kapoor’s or the Khan’s and termed it as the ‘Outsiders Scam’.
Amidst all this chaos a very well-known singer Sonu Nigam released a video on his Instagram account on 18th June, which was like another bombshell blow to the Bollywood industry.
In that video, he claimed that not only the actors even several aspiring singers are struggling to find their feet in Bollywood due to the favoritism by some of the big music companies without mentioning any names and called it as ‘Music Mafia’.
Later he again posted a video where he mentioned Bhusan Kumar; the owner of the T-series and lashed out at him brutally where he said “Bhushan Kumar, now I have to mention your name and you deserve to be addressed without respect.”
He later added, “Do you remember the times you would come to my house requesting me to record an album for you? saying ‘Brother, record Deewana for me, introduce me to Smita Thackeray and Bal Thackeray and save me from Abu Salem’. He also warned the addressed person to not mess with him.
While taking a jibe at Bhusan Kumar he ended with a threat of releasing a video of actress Marina Kunwar who accused Bhusan Kumar of sexual harassment during the #metoomovement.
In response, the wife of T-series Chairman Divya Khosla Kumar released a video on her Instagram account where she accused Sonu Nigam of being ‘Thankless’. She said, “I want to tell everyone that Sonu Nigam used to sing in Delhi’s Ramlila for Rs 5.
Gulshan Kumar Ji spotted him, recognized his talent, bought him flight tickets to come to Mumbai, and told him, ‘Beta, I will make you a very big artist’”.She then added that in 1197 when Gulshan Kumar was shot to death Sonu Nigam thought that T-series has no future and left the company when the company was in need which shows his dignity.
And she took advantage of Sonu Nigam’s statement where the later said that Bhusan Kumar asked him to save him from Abu Salem; she asked for an investigation against Sonu Nigam to probe his links with terrorists like Abu Salem.
She also shrugged off all the claims and exclaimed that the accusation made by Marina Kunwar was false and it was only to defame his husband. Though they refrained from doing any police complaint against it.
As after the Sushant’s mysterious suicide and Movie Mafia or Nepotism claims that raptured the image of Bollywood, all the big named celebrities who got accused of favoritism completely shut down the comment sections of their social media accounts due to the continuous poisonous death threats and rape threats by some anonymous people.
So did Divya Khosla Kumar while posting the video on Instagram. Later Sonu Nigam shared the same clip with a caption “I think she forgot to open her comments. Let’s help her in that.” This led to serious attacks on her, including rape and violent threats.
This behavior of Sonu Nigam clearly didn’t go well for the major section who followed this controversy and actually, Sonu Nigam got thrashed as he openly invited people to do one kind of cyberbullying to a woman.
And many have openly lashed out at him saying that he did these things to get some new followers for his social media account. As Divya’s family is now getting calls with death and rape threats even his child is facing heavy backlash on social media.
This controversy doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon as Sonu Nigam’s “Call for compassion” gave this controversy a new edge.
