Maham Syed - I Started With Zero Investment as My Business Model Was Simple (Founder Popsicle Events)

I started with zero investment. My business model was very simple. What I made, I put into the business as capital. I did not think of making a profit for more than a year but I did breakeven. Subsequently, I ended up with capital and profit in my second year of business. Which was pretty good for a start-up like mine.

Tell us more about your company and your journey.

I'm an entrepreneur and an influencer. I founded an Event Planning company by the name of Popsicle Events in 2017. We cater to Personal and Corporate Events. Some two years back we stepped into Couture Weddings and it's been an adventurous journey.

How did you come up with this idea and go about executing it?

Credentially I'm an MBA in Human Resources, but the fact that I study Business as a whole has helped me a lot. This idea came to two years after the birth of my second child. I am one of those finicky moms who is super attached to her kids. But as a woman, I believe in the journey of my self-discovery and independence. So the idea of starting up my own business simple meant that I would have more time to spend with my children, which I couldn't do if I worked for a corporation.

The first event I did was the baby shower of a close friend. Everything was handmade. It was stressful at the same time. Because you have the irresponsibility of making someone's special day momentous and that can take a toll on you. Although I have professionally and personally grown alot since that day, that baby shower will always be my favourite even. t

What has been your biggest challenge that you faced and how did you overcome that?

The biggest challenge was setting up a pop-up shop for the launch of the international cosmetic brand, The Balm. The budget was short, I was a newbie stepping into the world of PR and brand launches.

Moreover, I only had 12 hours to come up with an aesthetic plan, get it designed and executed. I'm so glad it went amazingly well. Allah has been more than kind.
