I am Nithin, a certified Yoga and Kalaripayattu instructor from Thrissur, Kerala. My journey started at the age of 13 when I started my training in Kalaripayattu. Over the years, I have participated in various Kalaripayattu competitions and during one of those, I sustained a severe shoulder injury. Doctors advised surgery to correct this.
I started researching and practising handstands to improve my shoulder strength and mobility. I developed a keen interest in Yoga following the big impact my practice had on my recovery from injury. I pursued my TTC in Yoga and started attending competitions. I currently work as an instructor in VKM kalariyoga in Trivandrum.
I enjoy photography and travel and hope to travel around the world to share my passion for Yoga and Kalari. My dream is to attend the ‘Momentom Collective’ workshops in Bali and introduce Kalaripayattu in their yoga retreats.
I also have a keen interest in team sports like cricket and volleyball.
2. What is your fitness Mantra?
Work hard and push yourself consistently to maximise your potential and most importantly be yourself in everything you do.
3. What are some of the major misconceptions about diet and exercise?
There are too many myths surrounding diet and exercise. It is important to educate ourselves and be aware. My recommendation is to follow a balanced diet instead of completely cutting down major food groups like carbohydrates or fats.
When we talk about exercise, always focus on quality over quantity.
A good quality work out is far more beneficial in the long run than overworking your muscles which could lead to injuries.

There are different styles of Yoga, first identify the one you want to teach.
I believe that it is important to train and have the right certification to start with. Continuous learning and teaching go hand in hand in both Yoga and Kalaripayattu.
