Trishita Recs - I Got Myself Involved in Performing Arts at a Very Young Age (Musical Artist)

Trishita Maitra

Trishita's roots are in Hindustani Classical Music. She's spent several years training as a vocalist in a number of Indian sub-genres. Trishita spent her childhood in Madhya Pradesh, as well as Kolkata.

Both of these places being as culturally rich as they are, spent a big part of her life invested in art, music, and theatre. She gave her first stage performance when she was five.

1.Tell us more about your background and journey.

I grew up in Madhya Pradesh and Bengal, both being culturally rich states. I got myself involved in performing arts at a very young age, just always felt at home whenever I was on stage.

2. When did you first decide you wanted to pursue music and how did you start?

I think being connected to music brings me a lot of joy and I've known that ever since I was a little girl. The first I performed on stage, my hand wouldn't even reach the end of my harmonium, that's how small I was.

On some level, I always knew this is what I'd like to do full time.

3. Who is your favorite artist and why?

It's nearly impossible to answer that question. Especially as a pop artist, you end up drawing inspiration from various genres, styles, and artists. It's hard to pinpoint a single influence.

4. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content onYouTube and how did you start?

I was in my second year of college and a friend of mine who's a cinematographer encouraged me to start the channel. He used to help with the videos. Eventually, I started looking after the entire operation on my own.

5. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as a singer?

Well, there's a lot. You can do the voice-over, jingles, pilot tracks, vocal scores, and vocal design, and of course, live events.

However, with the current development of the independent subgenre of music in India, it's always a good idea to have an original sound.

6. How can we encourage more youngsters to take up music as a full-time profession?

I'd just say that while it's amazing to keep at it when it comes to any kind of art because there's no set way of doing things; it is also important to be realistic about where you stand in terms of skills. It's an incredibly competitive field. Hard work, as well as smart work, is everything.

7. Which is your favorite movie and why?

The Intern.

I just really love Anne Hathaway's portrayal of a driven, passionate and independent woman. How she seemingly has it all, but in reality, just how difficult it is to make the pieces in a puzzle sit perfectly.

8. Your message for people who want to make their passion their profession.

Greater the risk, greater the return. Just keep trying, and don't give up easily.

Both of these places being as culturally rich as they are, she spent a big part of her life invested in art, music, and theatre. She gave her first stage performance when she was five.

She was so young that her hand wouldn’t even reach the end of her harmonium. As traditional and ethnocentric as she has been with the discipline of music, she is just as cosmopolitan and contemporary with the portrayal of her own craft.

After over a decade of local gigs, competitions, cover artistry, national/ international level reality shows, jingles/ singles for other creators, she is stepping forward and releasing her own music. Trishita believes that art has the capacity to shape minds.

This is why she wants her music to not only be influential but also impactful. She thinks it is important to realize that having a voice comes with a certain degree of responsibility.

Her songwriting is driven by three particular objectives. She wishes that her voice becomes the solace in someone's busy day, the reason for a positive change in someone's life, or the cause for someone questioning the nitty-gritty of the world.

She's now experimenting with styles and genres like jazz, blues, pop-rock, gospel, reggae, acoustic soul, etc., and trying to find various ways to incorporate them into Hindi Indie Pop.

*Latest work* - Even though we all were attempting to survive a worldwide pandemic, 2020 was doubly special to me. I stepped into the world of Indie music with my Debut Hindi Single - Aasmaan. To keep the ball rolling, my 5 track EP called Khoyi Rahun is also being released and has been very well accepted.

This record is an example of what we can call a “Pandemic Production”. The compositions, writing, recording, mixing, everything happened via phone calls, text messages, and video chats. The topics of the tracks have been inspired by my personal experiences and observations.

I have always loved the idea of using art as a method of expression, therefore each song not only explores a unique emotion lyrically but also dives deep in terms of genre-based production. The overall soundscape of the album is quite eclectic in its approach.
