The uniqueness of my blog is that it focuses specifically on bucket list ideas and inspiration. And that doesn’t just mean travel, it can also be unique foods to try or crafts to create or fitness goals to accomplish, etc. So, there is a little something for everyone.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I'm Annette, the author of Bucket List Adventures, co-owner of Sugo Trattoria, the boss at buck & co. and creator of the award-winning travel blog, Bucket List Journey whose mission is to give every person in the world the tools and inspiration to live their bucket list.
Phew! That's a mouthful. As an obsessed new experience collector, my passion is for checking the world off my bucket list one adventure at a time.
A little bit about how I got to where I am today: I had been suffering from anxiety for over twenty years and started to grow tired of the limitations that it was putting on actually living life to the fullest. There was one morning I woke up and decided something needed to change.
After tons of research, I realized that my anxiety was created by my thoughts. I worked hard over the years (and still continue to) to understand, challenge and change my thoughts.
On that day, I also made two promises to myself. The first was to not let fear make my decisions for me and the second was to start living my bucket list. These two promises have pushed me out of my comfort zone being the support system I needed to step out of the box, travel the world and change my life
2. What attracted you towards blogging?
Initially, I was simply looking for a place to record my ever-growing bucket list and its progress. The pieces of scrap paper and random Internet files were getting out of control, so I decided to condense my dozens of notes into a blog. As time went on, the blog changed from being just my practical list-keeping spot to being a place for readers to get the tools and inspiration for their own bucket lists.
3. What was your opinion before starting your blog and how well did it turn up?
In the beginning, I didn’t realize that you could actually make a good income for blogging or that it would turn into something that supported checking things off my own bucket list.
But, because of that growth of the blog and the social media accounts attached to it, I have been offered many amazing opportunities (like piranha fishing in the Amazon. Who does that?) and because of that fearless promise I made to myself, I said yes to a lot of them.
Companies wanted me to promote their products, a publisher wanted me to write a book and tourism boards starting inviting me as a marketing influencer to their destinations, essentially I get paid to travel the world and check goals off my bucket list along the way. And I’m not going to lie it IS the best job ever. Because, I am living my dream.
4. Should blogging be just a passion or can it become a regular career?
It depends on what you want for your life. For me, the idea of turning my passion for blogging about bucket lists into a career is a no-brainer! Imagine being able to do something you love every single day, and making more money than at a typical 9-5 job working for someone else.
5. Where do you find inspiration to churn out content for your blog?
There are several ways I get content ideas, but most are based on experiences that I have had and want to share with my readers. Some other topics are found by doing a keyword search of my blog’s main keywords to see if there is are similar keywords that I am not ranking for, I will them write an article based on those keywords.
I also keep a spreadsheet of potential topics as I think of them or come across ideas on the internet, so if I am ever in need of content I just refer to that list.
6. According to you, what is one thing that makes your blog unique and interesting?
What is unique about my blog is that it focuses specifically on bucket list ideas and inspiration. And that doesn’t just mean travel, it can also be unique foods to try or crafts to create or fitness goals to accomplish, etc. So, there is a little something for everyone.
7. Tell us more about your blog "bucket list journey"
Bucket List Journey is almost eleven years old, and for the first five years I didn’t make a dime. I continued because I was passionate about spreading my message of facing your fears to live your bucket list dream.
