Natasha Minocha - My Motto Is Eat Well, Live Well (Food Blogger)

Baking and cooking are incomplete for me till I am able to share my food. My brand Tasha’s Artisan Foods was born from this love of sharing the joy of food with others.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I have been baking for as long as I can remember; my parents inculcated in me the love of both enjoying and creating food at a very young age. I’m also a feeder. Baking and cooking are incomplete for me till I am able to share my food. My brand Tasha’s Artisan Foods was born from this love of sharing the joy of food with others.

Six years ago, I created a blog to post recipes and connect with the food community. That has now grown into a larger global readership which encourages me to keep creating and growing! My work includes collaborating with brands to create content for them - from recipes to styled photos.

On my site, I explore wholesome, happy foods. This can range from traditional Indian recipes to developing new desserts. What I love about this work is getting to connect with an audience through a medium that everyone gets - good food.

2. Which is your favourite cuisine and dish?

My favourite food will always be Indian! Food is such a personal experience and for me, the best meals can be tied to the food my parents made in my childhood. A simple bowl of daal chawal with a dollop of ghee on top.

A plate of fresh, steaming idlis. Homemade desi khanna is irreplaceable in my world. This is the food that no matter what will remind me of the warmth and love of my parent’s cooking.

3. Should food blogging be just a passion or can it become a regular career?

Making a career from your passion is one of the hardest paths to take, but also immensely fulfilling and rewarding. I think it’s important to seek work that you can find meaning in. This is often easier said than done in an unpredictable, unregulated space like blogging.

So to people looking to make a career out of it, I would not deter them. But I would caution you to make sure you have approached it like any other startup endeavour. Blogging requires an investment of time, money, energy to convert into a job that provides for you!

4. Which restaurants/food joints would you recommend to food lovers?

I have not been eating out since March last year, so I am a little rusty on restaurant recommendations.

Pasta Bowl in Gurgaon always makes a rich, delicious meal. Sibang Bakery is fabulous for bread and sugar donuts. I miss going to Sly Granny and Town Hall! And of course, Roots Cafe in Gurgaon is a must for simple, delicious breakfasts.

5. What makes you appreciate a particular dish or a restaurant and talk about it on your blog?

My motto is to eat well, live well. I share recipes that I want to eat and feed my loved ones, that I think would brighten someone’s day or meet a need in their life. Inspiration from these recipes comes from an old dish my mother made, a cookbook, Pinterest, or a reader requesting something.

Other times they come from pure experimentation in the kitchen when I play around with flavours and ingredients that I want to bring together. That is a part of what makes my work so fun - it changes every day!

Sometimes I’ll be inspired to talk about vegan food, another day a chocolate indulgence. The parameters it’ll have to pass to make it to my blog is that readers can make it easily at home, that it tastes amazing and is made as wholesome as possible.

6. Which is your favourite book and why?

My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durell.

This is a book I will pick up at least once a month. Gerald Durell is a masterful writer, so descriptive and hilarious. Even a chapter of reading about his life in Corfu with the most entertaining family will lift my spirits!
