Baljeet Singh - Food Blogging Can Definitely Become a Career but It Is Important for It to Also Be a Passion (Food Blogger)

Wish of taste started as a a hobby and an initial step towards my dream of having a restaurant, I started this blog page to pursue my combined passion for food and photography. I had never expected it to reach the fan following it has and turn into a platform that reaches such a huge audience, and hopefully inspires some too.

1. Please tell us about your background and journey.

I always wanted to get into business but coming from a middle class family i was really short of options without an investment. And, that's where my risk taking instincts started to work. I took over a loss making, debt ridden company and turned it into a profitable business in less than 2 years. Today, i own a design house, a risk consulting company and a self funded NGO that works for underprivileged kids.

Wish of taste started as a a hobby and an initial step towards my dream of having a restaurant, I started this blog page to pursue my combined passion for food and photography. I had never expected it to reach the fan following it has and turn into a platform that reaches such a huge audience, and hopefully inspires some too.

Since the day it started, it has only helped me explore my various interests. It is now not only a food blog but is also about art and aesthetic, which are also things that I am quite passionate about.

2. Which is your favourite cuisine and dish?

I have tried varied cuisines from across the world but my favourite cuisine would definitely be Awadhi which falls under Indian, though Italian is a close second. My favourite dish is Awadhi mutton curry because of the depth of flavour that can be achieved using only a handful of spices.

3. Should food blogging be just a passion or can it become a regular career?

Food blogging can definitely become a career but it is important for it to also be a passion. I strongly believe that any passion can turn into a career but not every career would be someone’s passion. Working every single day, and making a living with something that you’re genuinely interested in and passionate about is the best life can offer!

4. Which restaurants/food joints would you recommend to food lovers?

In Delhi, some of my favourite places are Tonino, Farzi Cafe, The China Kitchen, Indian Accent. They all are unique in their own style of serving some amazing food. They all are a must try for everyone.

5. What makes you appreciate a particular dish or a restaurant and talk about it on your blog?

For me, food is like something that rejuvenates me in the middle of a hectic lifestyle. So, I look for places, which are not too crowded and are peaceful and have a great ambience.

Food, of course has to be good with subtle flavours. Though I do not talk much about restaurants on my blog but yes you'll find all great flavours on my page.

6. Is there a dish you particularly associate yourself with?

I am a person who cannot pretend and is full of energy and enthusiasm. I would associate myself with a dish like chicken biryani. It is a classic and sophisticated dish, but has a lot of complex flavours that you come across as you reach the different layers in the dish, and same goes for me as a person. Life is incomplete without Biryani and so it is without me

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

My favourite book would have to be ‘Jobs,’ the biography of former Apple CEO, Steve Jobs. He is one of the people I admire, because of his dedication and loyalty to his work. The book is like a peak into his life from the very first Mac to the trillion dollar company Apple is today.
