When I have the creative freedom in a shoot I would survey the place, person or product and see how it looks and feels to me. I would look to show the viewer the most original of my views, sometimes going the extra mile to get the shot oblivious to everything else that’s happening around me.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
Born in Northern Ireland and growing up in the beautiful Co Down countryside near Castlewellan. In the early and 80’s and 90's sheltered from a lot of the troubles that were going on at that time.
The youngest child of four, always loved looking through old photo albums which was stored in old suitcases in my mother and father's room from a young age could relate to the importance of recording memories and making pictures.
Art was the only subject I was interested in and used to skip maths classes to go and spend more time in the art studio. After leaving school I went on to study graphic design and photography at the university of Ulster Magee campus in Derry in 2017.
I got published by Instagram on their main page with a photograph of castlewellan park peace maze. I do believe the the 1st Irish photographer ever to be featured on their main page.
2. What inspired you to pursue photography?
My sister bought me my 1st sir camera for my 18th Birthday although I have been using a point and shoot camera since I was about 10 year old. Photography has alway been my passion, growing up I was always making pics on a 35mm film camera.
There was no second chances once you clicked it had to be right, that was your moment captured and the excitement of developing your own pics in the dark room was such a buzz however. Things are a lot more simple now with new DSLR and Mirrorless cameras & phones but the buzz of getting the Shot still remains.
