I love food- I dream about food. I can taste food in my head and always have even when I was little. It’s my art form.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
It’s kind of a long story- I always loved the kitchen and cooking - then I entered some recipe contests and did pretty well, then more contests and some wins. I entered Master Chef Jr on kind of a dare from my Dad.
I really wanted Gordon Ramsay’s autograph so I entered to show to try and get it. Then I won the show, I did all kinds of charity events and cooking demos and more. It positioned me to be here talking to you.
2. What fascinated you to become a chef?
I love food- I dream about food. I can taste food in my head and always have even when I was little. It’s my art form. My passion.
3. How did you feel about being in and winning Master Chef Junior?
There was a lot more pressure and stress than I expected. It was hard work. I had a goal to cook with Chef Ramsay and I achieved that goal. I enjoyed that day the most. It was more fun then I imagined. Winning was a big surprise, I knew I had a shot to win but wow it was cool.
4. Is there a dish you particular associate yourself with?
No- I am on a journey to find and learn more about food. People usually ask me to cook them seafood. I also make this beet goat cheese salad with a spice gastrique that is really popular.
5. What tips would you like to give to all the junior chefs like you?
Keep a flavor journal, learn about food, taste and smell. The kitchen is a tough place and everyone can have a bad day so push through it, keep cooking and if it burns order a pizza.
6. Which is your favorite book and why?
I read a lot of books so that is tough - Ernest Hemingway is my favorite author and my favorite novel is Enders Game by Orsob Scott Card.
