Solar energy acted as a supplementary source to the conventional energy sources, but that day isn't far when the entire world are going to be connected by one grid of solar power as a primary source of energy Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address mentioned the mega plan of "One Sun, One World, One Grid" (OSOWOG).
What is OSOWOG and What is it?
(OSOWOG)One sun one world grid is a project is to supply solar power to solar deficient countries. a trans-national electricity grid supplying solar power across the globe. Policy experts describe it as a part of India’s answer to China’s “One Belt One Road” project.
The ambitious OSOWOG will connect 140 countries through a standard grid which will be wont to transfer solar energy . “The vision behind the OSOWOG mantra is ‘The Sun Never Sets’ and may be a constant at some geographical location, globally, at any given point of your time.
Till now solar power acted as a supplementary source to the traditional energy sources, but that day is not far when the whole world will be connected by a single grid of solar power as a primary source of energy.
Drafted by our Prime Minister
The idea was first drafted back in the Year 2018, by Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi during the first assembly of the international solar alliance. National renewable energy management centers in India have prospects of growing as regional and global management centers.
Opportunities and Challenges to be Faced
It looks ambitious, but if structured well could change the way electricity is traded between countries like all other commodity. India has one of the world’s largest operating synchronous grid with about 370 gigawatts of installed power generation capacity.
This provided a supply of electricity in deficit areas and helped to reduce electricity costs which had been driven up by transmission constraints. Several countries, including China, have initiated infrastructure projects in other countries, a step is seen as a sign of asserting supremacy.
Overall Benefits to India
India is heavily hooked in to imported fossil fuels, with an import bill of USD 180 billion in 2019/20. Import costs have fallen lately due to a steep decline in global prices. But because the world economy recovers, global oil prices will devour and increase the burden for India and other countries that believe imports to satisfy their energy needs.
OSOWOG can help India make the best use of its divergent natural resource and take advantage of time differences to best use intermittent but low-cost solar and wind power generation ;it would also help to supply grid stability and encourage the uptake of unpolluted technologies.
More Renewable Resources
An energy source may be a necessary element of socio-economic development. The increasing economic process of developing nations within the last decades has caused an accelerated increase in energy consumption.
This trend is anticipated to grow as India is a tropical country and receives significant radiation, and hence the solar potential is very high, some other major sources are-
- Wind Energy
- Biomass Energy
- Hydel Energy
- Geothermal Energy
- Tidal Energy
Wind energy continues to dominate the renewable energy industry. Endless possibilities are coming during a way with reference to solar energy within the near future.
