Many times it happens that we tend to judge things by their names. Just because it sounds too fancy to be Indian, we think of it to be foreign. And exactly how we get mistaken. Many Indian brands have chosen names that sound far-flung and exotic. By doing so they play with our psychology and thus garner more customers for their brands. Another reason being that if they choose to opt for Indian names, chances that they might lose out on prospective customers.

1. Louis Philippe

This premium brand of men's apparel is a product of Madura Fashion and Lifestyle. The name of the brand is inspired by the French King, Louis Philippe. One of the largest apparel brands in India, it has a turnover of approximately $150 million.


2. Lakmé

Yes, it's that Lakmé only which you thought to be foreign. Introduced in 1952, this Indian brand is owned by Hindustan Unilever. Ranked among the top cosmetics brands in India, it was named after a French opera with the same name. It's interesting to note that this cosmetics brand was started at Jawaharlal Nehru's request, the then Prime Minister. Because he was worried about the valuable foreign exchange spent on beauty products!


3. Van Heusen

Van Heusen is another Indian men’s clothing brand offering its customers a sense of luxury and comfort. It is another subsidiary of Madura Fashion and Lifestyle.


4. Peter England

This will definitely come as a surprise! Despite having 'England' in its name, it's an Indian brand! Yet another initiative of Madura Fashion and Lifestyle, is a very popular menswear brand in India.

Founded by Anita Dongre, Mukesh Salwani, and Meena Mehra in 1995, And has just not gained popularity in India, but globally. This women's clothing brand is offering international and trendy styles to everyone.


6. Royal Enfield

Probably the most loved motorcycle brand of India, Royal Enfield is "the oldest global motorcycle brand in continuous production". Its most famous model, "Bullet" has the longest production run of all time. Initially, Royal Enfield was a British company but now it is a subsidiary of Eicher Motors Limited, located in Chennai.
