Amazing Facts About Uttar Pradesh Politics

 


Uttar Pradesh is India’s fourth largest state. Its population is about 20-21 crores, which is nearly equivalent to population of Brazil. There is much to know about this state and especially its politics. Let’s take a look at its political situation.


Politics in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh was formed in 1950. From 1950-1967, UP was ruled by congress party. But in 1967, there was a sudden change when Chaudhary Charan Singh formed his own party by resigning from Congress party. Name of the party was “Bharatiya Kranti Sena”. He then became the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. After that, in 1977, emergency was imposed and for many years, UP remained under presidential rule. Year 2002 was the last year for UP to be under presidential rule. In 1989, a change was occurred due to the chief minister Mulayam Singh Azad from the party Janata dal. But his tenure as Chief Minister did not last for long.

In 1991, Bhartiya Janata party incurred position in which Kalyan Singh was chief minister. In 1992, Mulayam Singh started his own party named Samajwadi party.


About the Politicians

Mulayam Singh Yadav: He worked thrice as chief minister. Initially, he was with Janata dal and then with Samajwadi party because he was having a deep belief in Samajwadi party and he was against Congress party.

Mayawati - From BSP party, she was the second woman chief minister and India’s first dalit women to become chief minister of a state. Her mentor  was Kashiram, who is a socialist and founder of the party. In the year 2002 , Kashiram had declared Mayawati as his successor. She was the one to become chief minister of Uttar Pradesh 4 times . She holds a strong vote bank of dalit people, which includes backward classes ,tribal people and many others. During a period of time, the party faced many issues like corruption. So, in next election, people elected Samajwadi party, led by the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav- son of Mulayam Singh.

- At a very young age, he became the chief minister of UP. He had done many progressive works in UP. But, his own family members were against him and consequently, the party got divided into two parts.

In the year 2014 , a huge change as occurred. This change can also be named as Modi’s wave. Whenever there was a turn to oppose BJP party then this Akhilesh Yadav as well as Mayawati came together against BJP but there in vain. Yogi Adityanath became the chief minister of UP. He was a priest of a temple. He also symbolizes Hinduism in his way of dressing and culture he follows. From 2017 till today, he is the chief minister of UP.


Caste Dynamics

In Uttar Pradesh, there are nearly 79.8% Hindus and 19.23% Muslims. This is why Uttar Pradesh is known as Hindu Heartland. There are certain other castes including 21% forward castes , 10% SC , 22% OBC. BJP tries to put together all the castes.

There are many parties including Aam Aadmi party in Uttar Pradesh but the Modi wave has influenced a lot and once again Yogi Adityanath has become the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
