Robin Sieger - After Leaving the Bbc I Set Up My Business, Which at Its Core Still Holds Onto My Childhood Dreams (Entrepreneur from London)

Every entrepreneur will tell you of their failures as learning experiences - don’t be afraid to fail. Trust your own vision, remember there are no statues to critics, so avoid negative opinions of others who don’t know your business.

1.Tell us more about your company and your journey.

As a child I wanted to be a doctor or a comedian, as I wanted to make people better and make them laugh. After leaving the BBC I set up my business, which at its core still holds onto my childhood dreams. We now help people and companies be more successful with happier employees (and customers), through culture change programs, training initiatives and motivational events.

2. What do you think are the most important qualities of a successful entrepreneur?

A clear vision, Confidence in themselves and their vision, no Fear of Failure, and Commitment to their purpose

3. What are some of the most important factors for running a successful business?

I believe 3 factors are critical.

  1. To understand what motivates your staff and your customers.
  2. To create pride in the brand where the customer becomes the centre of your Universe
  3. You will be known by your actions not your words. Walk your talk.

4. What are your tips for first time and aspiring entrepreneurs?

Every entrepreneur will tell you of their failures as learning experiences - don’t be afraid to fail.

Trust your own vision, remember there are no statues to critics, so avoid negative opinions of others who don’t know your business. Never forget what you put in is what you will get out, so don’t look the easiest way - look for the best way.

5. How can one become a public speaker?

Just do it. Sorry but that’s it. There is no short cut. Get up and speak every chance you get. Join Toastmasters. Look and learn from others. To become good at anything requires study and practice. Public Speaking is no different.

6. Which is your favourite talk ever and how did it change your life?

I have seen hundreds of speakers. One that stands out for me was by Nando Parrado, who as a young man survived a plane crash - was given up for dead, and two months later walked across the Andes to get help for the survivors. His talk is a powerful message on the power of the human spirit, love, resilience and courage.

7. What are the best public speaking tips that have worked for you?

Tell stories, as people remember stories they don’t remember facts and figures as easily. Speak slowly (I’m still working on this). My personal tip is to talk to one person in the audience and always maintain eye-contact with people when you speak, this encourages you to create intimacy and connectedness.

8. Which is your favourite book and why?

Love Is Letting Go of Fear. By Dr Jerry Jampolsky. It is a book of hope and joy, which tells of the need to let go of negative thoughts, feelings and emotions we carry about ourselves and others. When we do this we discover that underneath these self-created beliefs all that remains is who we are - ‘love’. I read this book every year.
