They say “where words fail, music speaks.” Undoubtedly music has the power to elevate our moods, make us sway, lighten our souls and affect us in several ways. Talking about music in India, the sad part is our choices and thoughts are mostly confined to Bollywood music.
But on the contrary, there's so much more to explore and recognize the work of Indie music artists and bands. And on the bright side, this indie music scene is booming in India. Here is a list of a few among a lot of Indie artists and bands who are making their way in the world of remixes.
1.Taba Chake

Originally from Arunachal Pradesh, Taba Chake is a singer-songwriter and a guitarist based in Mumbai. He writes and performs five languages: Nyishi, Hindi, English, Nepali and Assamese. He began writing songs when he was just 11. Some of his must-listen songs include "Shayad", "Walk with Me", "Morning Sun".
2. Ankur Tewari & The Ghalat Family

Ankur and The Ghalat Family is a Hindi rock project. The brainchild of Ankur Tewari, the band comprises other musicians namely, Sidd Cotto, Gaurav Gupta, Johan Pais, and Vivaan Kapoor. Soul-stirring lyrics and music connect with the audience in no time. "Dil Haare" and "Mohabbat Zindabad" are their most loved songs.
3. When Chai Met Toast

This Kochi based band started with Ashwin Gopakumar, the vocalist and Achyuth Jaigopal the guitarist. Soon Pai Sailesh joined them on the drums and Pale Francis on the keyboards. Their music represents the coming together of Eastern (Chai) and the Western (Toast) essence of music. "Firefly", "Khoj" and "When We Feel Young" are some of their famous songs.
4. The Yellow Diary

This Mumbai-based band is a team of five musicians - Himanshu Parikh (music producer, keyboardist, backing vocals), Rajan Batra (vocalist, composer, songwriter), Vaibhav Pani (guitarist), Sahil Shah (drummer), and Stuart DaCosta (bassist). In a very little time, they have made a big name in the Indian indie music scene. Started with "Marz" their recent song "Roz Roz" is a big hit.
5. Bharat Chauhan

A singer-songwriter, Bharat Chauhan is based in New Delhi. His dreamy husky voice is mesmerizing accompanied by soulful and touching lyrics. "Tu Hoti Toh", "Ghar" and "Tinka" are a few of his gems.
6. Jasleen Royal

This Indian singer, songwriter, and composer have sung in a lot of Bollywood movies but still, continue to produce music independently as well. Her debut song "Panchi Ho Java" bagged an award for the Best Indie Song at the MTV Video Music Awards India in 2013. With songs such as "Din Shagna Da", "Kho Gaye Hum Kahan" and many more, Jasleen has earned a lot of reputation in the industry.
7. Mali

Malavika Manoj professionally known as Mali is a Mumbai-based songwriter and musician. She has worked with amazing musicians like AR Rahman and Dhanush. Her song ‘Mundane’ was ranked Number 1 in the Euro Indie Music Chart.
