The best way would be self-educating yourself & hustling by yourself to make things happen which I feel is the first thumb rule and if once you can afford a team, look for hiring smart people and make every penny count.
1. Tell us more about what you do and what led you to speak on the TEDx platform.
Firstly, hello to the team & subscribers of Eatmynews. I'm Akhil Kumar & I'm also the Global Fan Ambassador for LaLiga & alongside that, I'm an actor, host & entrepreneur & have been a part of some national & international projects.
I just got an invitation to speak at the TEDx event organized by Shoolini University & feel fortunate that they considered me worthy of coming on this world-renowned platform & I really hope my talk can inspire at least some people to follow their passion.
2. How do you chose and prepare for a talk?
Well, I personally feel, anybody who has a story worth telling can be a TEDx speaker so more than preparing it's about being yourself, evaluating your entire journey & then gathering the Interesting aspects from it and combining them into a story you would like as an audience.
Also, since you're continuously speaking for about 15 minutes it's certainly important to rehearse but at the same time, it should look realistic & more than anything else, speak from the heart, and of course, my hosting Experience certainly helped.
3. How can one become a public speaker?
Well, it's a question that may have many answers but I think it's a lot about being confident and having self-belief. For beginners, they can start reciting a story at home to your family as the audience and then slowly and steadily making that audience bigger. Having a good presence of mind & a bit of sense of humor certainly helps.
4. Can motivational speaking become a full-time career?
I'm not sure if I'm the right person to answer this but I feel there is a will there is a way but before being able to motivate someone, we should be self-motivated, if we have that in us then there is no stopping. However, be fair to the people and have your own experiences that you can speak about.
5. Which is your favorite talk ever and how did it change your life?
Well, it'll not be fair on my part to choose one favorite talk, I've heard a lot of good talks & podcasts. To be honest it has been my own self-talks to me over a period of time that probably changed me in a lot of ways. I've certainly been inspired by the likes of Simon Sinek, Sam Berns, Abhishek Banerjee & Sandeep Maheshwari to name a few.
6. What are the best public speaking tips that have worked for you?
Well, I think just being the way I am, not taking myself too seriously, and trying to add value to the lives of the people listening to me are some things that have worked well for me.
7. What impact do you want to make in the world?
Well, I feel having an ability to take less and to be able to give more is the impact I would want to able to create.
8. What are your tips for first-time and aspiring entrepreneurs?
The best way would be self-educating yourself & hustling by yourself to make things happen which I feel is the first thumb rule and if once you can afford a team, look for hiring smart people and make every penny count.
9. How can one overcome a hurdle of lack of funds when starting up?
I think one should be able to live off of the edge if funds are less & being bootstrapped till you make it. However, I feel in today's age there are several companies that have been helping start-ups raise funds like Meteor Ventures where my own friends have gone and gotten help.
I personally feel, the word 'hurdle' should not exist if you're an aspiring entrepreneur & I hope to see many new-age entrepreneurs making their way from our country.
