Sakshi Naik - Your Unique Ideas Will Drive You up and Above the Rest (Digital Creator from India)

I’d say my style is comfortable, affordable, and most importantly anything that I can carry well. I don’t like to go with trends unless they would look good on me. It took me years to understand my style and what I wear right now is something the evolved over the years. I don’t really know if I will stick to this in the next two years.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

Hello! My name is Sakshi Naik, I’m 23 and I live in Mumbai. Being a kid, I loved getting clicked. I was born a poser you can say. In my teens, Instagram was the new cool. I would post my OOTD’s and random makeup look selfies there.

One fine day, I get a call from a friend who asked me if I would model for his brand. I was a little hesitant because I never did something like that before. But, he happened to cheer me up and pushed me to go for it.

Ever since then, there is no looking back! I started modeling at the age of 16 and it’s 8 years now. I’ve done several shoots for e-commerce platforms like Ajio, Myntra and innumerable shoots for local businesses.

2. When and how did you decide to become a digital creator and what type of content do you usually create?

In 2018, whilst my Instagram profile was full of my modeling pictures, brands confused me as a blogger. They would approach me to promote their products, and that’s when I realized that I can do both here - Pose & Promote.

I researched more about this field and understood that I can turn my passion for getting clicked into a career. Since then, I started collaborating with brands and would often click my own pictures. Last year I purchased my first iPhone with my own money and it was indeed an accomplishment for me.

3. How would you describe your fashion style?

I’d say my style is comfortable, affordable, and most importantly anything that I can carry well. I don’t like to go with trends unless they would look good on me. It took me years to understand my style and what I wear right now is something the evolved over the years. I don’t really know if I will stick to this in the next two years.

4. How do you maintain consistency in creating your content?

It’s super important to be consistent in everything you do. If you have a full-time job, you don’t have any option but to wake up and work. I feel blessed to create content and I think of it as a job. A job where I can showcase my talent, help brands promote their businesses, and build an audience that will get inspired by the things I do and create.

For instance, a brand sent me a PR kit, and the campaign was called off because of the Covid situation in India. I felt bad because they spent revenue to bring the products to our influencers.

I created content for them and posted it on my feed. I didn’t get paid for the same. But the fact that the products were genuinely great and I thought my audience will love to explore them after my review, pushed me to post it.

5. Who do you admire the most and why?

I admire my mother the most. She’s the most hardworking and genuine person ever. I’ve grown up to be whatever I am because of her and I aspire to be as nice as a human that she is. I know I won’t get even close to what she’s achieved. But I will definitely try!

6. What tips and advice would you give to aspiring content creators?

I am no content guru to give any advice, to be honest. I am still learning and growing. But what I’ve noticed in the past three years of experience is that you have to create your own style.

You need not copy someone else when it comes to creating your content. Build a pattern - think of an idea, write it down, think of creative ways to portray it, execute it and deliver the same. You are the star of your profile. Your unique ideas will drive you up and above the rest.
