In today's generation, we obviously got the power of social media. If you are trained well then definitely you need to record yourself and show it to the world. if not today maybe someday you will get what you want. There are many opportunities from the studio level to the industry.
1. Tell us more about your background and journey.
Ankit Sati, a 27-year-old delhite. I am a graduate of Delhi University. I started my dance journey 10 years ago. I have been training, traveling, and performing for various dance festivals and corporate events at both national and international levels.
In addition to that, I was a part of the movie ABCD- Anybody Can Dance. I have performed with Yo Yo Honey Singh during the Bollywood concert ‘Temptation Reloaded’ held in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Dubai. I also featured in his music video ‘Issey Kehte hai Hip Hop’. Apart from that, I acted and danced in the musical theatre production ‘7 Days to Wonderland’. I was also a member and choreographer of the finalist team ‘Yo-Yo Boys’ of India’s Got Talent Season 6.
2. When did you decide you wanted to be an artist?
Well, you just need a second to get inspired. one day I saw a group of people dancing and doing b-boying in a park in front of my house. I thought of learning and joined a dance academy where I got to explore different styles of dancing. I always wanted to do something more than dance but with dance. Maybe an actor who dances really well or a singer who also dances.
But something which makes me a complete performer. so after few years of dancing, I decided to become a complete performer and I am still working towards that.
3. Who is your favorite dancer and why?
To be honest this is the most frequently asked question to me by my followers. I always say it's not necessary to get inspired by a dancer to become a dancer. I get fascinated watching people perform on stage. I used to watch alot of videos online but Bruno mars and Chris brown has something I got really inspired.
They are not just dancer but when they sing and dance along as a complete performer is something inspires me to become something more than just a dancer. I love watching their concert online and I get inspired every day. they are my favorites.
4. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as a dancer?
In today's generation, we obviously got the power of social media. If you are trained well then definitely you need to record yourself and show it to the world. if not today maybe someday you will get what you want. There are many opportunities from the studio level to the industry.
You can be a dance teacher, a background dancer in the music video, a successful choreographer, or a dancepreneur/influencer on social media and make a business out of it but it all depends on what you want and how much you are working hard to get there.
5. What led you to start your channel on YouTube? Which dance form do you love to do?
I used to watch international dancers who were very active on YouTube and I also wanted to be. I think I have created my youtube channel back in 2013
and I posted only two videos then I stopped because obviously it needs investment if you want to make a good video but that really didn't go in favor since financially I was not able to invest in videos.
My younger brother is a cinematographer/director now. in 2017 he started his own company call "Choose To Production" with his support from that time I created, shot, and released so many videos and still doing. The dance form I do is choreography. people have many different definitions of it but it is basically a choreography on a particular song, my interpretation of the song. a choreography that defines no particular dance form but your own way of creating it. you can call it Ankit Sati choreography style.
6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring artists?
There has to be a vision in your life. You may know what to do but you might not know how to execute. Not giving up on your dreams also means to be smart, however. You can try all you want but if you are taking the wrong set of actions, you are not going to get very far.
Life is going to find a way to test you. At times, you may feel that life is unfair. Whatever your dream is if it’s important to you then just fight for it. Never giving up doesn’t mean you keep doing the wrong things over and over. It means to be smart and figure out the correct actions to take and then taking them until you achieve your dreams. You should believe in hard work and dedication towards everything you want in life. If you can dream, you can achieve.
