How Mahatma Gandhi Helped Freedom Movements with His Mass Mobilization Techniques

Mahatma Gandhi is known as the father of the nation. He is one of the greatest personalities in the history of India's independence. Mahatma Gandhi believed in truth and nonviolence which he used for mass mobilization and also for the freedom of India from the British rule. 

According to Mahatma Gandhi non violence was stronger than violence. Nonviolent truth was the important aspect of Mahatma Gandhi’s life which he used for the freedom struggle of India. 

Gandhi ji's role was significant for the freedom of India as he was a spiritual person who believed in Ahimsa. He used Satyagraha movement as the powerful tool for forcing the British authority instead of trying the same as the British.

Techniques of Mass Mobilization:

In 1915 when Gandhiji came back to India from South Africa with the concept of Satyagraha he experimented this ideology which was successful in India but in three parts. 

The first experiment of Satyagraha came in the year 1917 in Bihar followed by in the year 1918 in Gujarat Kheda and the last one in 1918 in Ahmadabad Gujarat. He tried to balance the economic growth of India and decentralized the economy through this Satyagraha.

This experiment was based upon truth and moral courage especially the nonviolence. The movement of Satyagraha was started which comprises of nonviolence truth and honesty as well as peaceful non-cooperation and love. 

The movement of Satyagraha gave respect to the women and also it was a step towards the unity of Hindus and Muslims. Even as a political leader he used non violence as a tool to struggle against the foreign rule over India.

Gandhiji bought the concept of Swadeshi and opposed the use of foreign goods. He promoted the use of Khadi in India as well as encouraged self-reliance and boycotting British goods. After the first world war when the prices of the goods went up.

After the success of the experiment of Satyagraha, Gandhiji launched Rowlatt Satyagraha against the Rowlatt Act. But it was withdrawn due to the violence created in several parts of India after the incident of Jallianwala Bagh. As he did not liked violence and believed in nonviolence as the most powerful weapon.

In 1920 the non-cooperation Khilafat movement came into existence. Gandhiji thought this was a golden opportunity for mass mobilization among the Hindus and Muslims in the national wide struggle for freedom of India. 

During this period he was considered as one of the most significant leaders for awakening India with the concept of Swaraj. 

This movement brought unity among the people and several developments such as in educational sector by setting up colleges, schools and setting up of panchayat as well as give rise to the removal of untouchability norms. Gandhi ji called the untouchables as harijans. 

The movement taken by Gandhi ji created a mass mobilization amongst the people of India which created belongingness towards it's nation. The non cooperation movement saw the huge mass mobilization in favor of the Quit India Movement where the population of India participated to oppose the British rule.

Relevance in The Present Time:

The ideologies techniques used by Mahatma Gandhi gave solution to many problems. In today's context Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which was influenced by the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi which is been used and encouraged by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

The concept of Swadeshi in today’s time is used by Baba Ramdev. Gandhiji believed in nonviolence and a peaceful world. This nonviolence created several opportunities and possibilities for various problems in the world. 

Today the techniques and ideologies used by Mahatma Gandhi for the democratic India have helped many countries in the world to become democratic country.

Gandhigiri was an essential part for the freedom of India and even in present times his techniques such as Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas was under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi. 

Many movies were made which showcased the techniques and technologies used by Mahatma Gandhi which tells about the importance of nonviolence, truth peace and love, honesty.


The principle of peaceful protest which is known as Satyagraha of Bappu is still used by our leaders such as Anna Hazare, Baba Ramdev against the corruption. Gandhi ji today is known as father of the nation. 

Throughout his lifetime he respected all the religions and the people and gave the true teaching of nonviolence. He fought for the unity of Hindus and Muslims till his death as his dream was to have a unity among the people. 

His techniques and technology of nonviolence and truth created mass mobilization among the Indians and a dignity of self respect which also created nationalism in India.
