Venkatesh C.R. - Keep Pushing and Focus On Finding Solutions to Problem Statements (Founder and CEO - Dot Com Infoway)

Formal education is a must. I totally feel that education is not just for sharpening your skills but also to understand people and to learn to coexist in the community.

Tell us about your background, journey, and upbringing.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai. I did my schooling in Vikaasa School, Madurai. My family business was Textiles but however, I decided to start my own business.

I started an IT Services Company - Dot Com Infoway in the year 2000. At the same time, I also founded another media company - Galatta Media which was focussing on Indian Cinema.

What inspired you to take action in your direction and what are your future plans?

I always wanted to be an entrepreneur and that was the main reason for me starting this. Also, I wanted to give back something to society and I found that was by providing jobs. In the future, I want to be a mentor and advisor and help share my knowledge with youngsters.

Studies today show that an organization can lose INR 10 lakh (~ $17,000) on average on a wrong hire or for hiring someone with a false degree. The only tried and tested way to prevent frauds is via a thorough background verification process. Download SpringVerify's e-book for a comprehensive guide to Employee Background Verification in India.

What does your typical workday look like?

During the pandemic, things are totally different with work from home culture. The day starts with calls and followed by zoom meetings. I take a small break from work in the afternoon but then I start my meetings from 4 pm onwards till about late 10 pm.

Several global companies have come out and thrown their support behind not needing a formal education. What is your opinion about this?

Formal education is a must. I totally feel that education is not just for sharpening your skills but also to understand people and to learn to coexist in the community.

How do you handle someone who has lied on their resume?

Technically it's during a background check. However, when I interview them I have been able to find the facts. But that has come over experience by interviewing more than 5000 people over the last 21 years.

How has covid changed things at your workplace & which of these changes do you intend to make permanently?

We have been able to understand that work can get done working from home as well. Remote hiring has helped a lot as we don't need the physical presence of the candidate.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs or those eyeing the top job?

Keep pushing and focus on finding solutions to problem statements. That way you can easily reach the top.

Which is your favorite book/show and why?

My favorite book is “The Monk who sold his Ferrari”.
