If you do things in the right way, it is definitely a financially sustainable career. I don't entirely believe in the sustainability of the Influencer model as I feel influencers have a short shelf life. Which I why, I always wanted to set up a digital brand that can last for many years to come, in fact even without my existence.
Tell us about your background and journey.
I had been a
journalist working at various media platforms for good ten years and one day I
decided to quit my job and pursue my dream. A dream to travel around the world.
I started a company named Curly Tales, a food & travel recommendation
platform in 2017 and today it is one of India's best food & travel digital
platform with a community size of over 5 mn.
When did you first decide that you wanted to create digital content and how did you start?
I have always been working in the television space, only to realise that the
reach of digital content is often unmatched. I started Curly Tales in
2017 just as a digital platform creating written content pieces, soon jumped
into videos and now there is no looking back.
Is
vlogging and digital content creation a financially sustainable career?
If you do
things in the right way, it is definitely a financially
substainable career. I dont' entirely believe in the sustainability of
Influencer model as I feel influencers have a short shelf life. Which I why, I
always wanted to set up a digital brand which can last for many years to come,
infact even without my existence.
How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?
From places in and around me. I gauge what is the mood is like, what people are
talking about and which newer things are coming up. Of course, social media can
be a huge source of inspiration and there are people who are always doing
things better than you so that keeps you on your toes.
What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring digital creators?
Identify what you are passionate about, be sure about what you are good at,
understand if there is an opportunity in the market for your passion to be
appreciated, showcase your talent, be consistent and see how money flows
in.
Which
is your favorite book and why?
Honestly, it
keeps changing. But I have always been a fan of the book "The Secret"
I also enjoyed reading 'Ikagai' and my go-to book for some entrepreneurial
motivation is 'Lean In'.
