About the Movie
The movie was developed and produced by Skydance and co-financed by Paramount Pictures. It was originally set to release in theatres last Christmas but the pandemic forced the film to release in July 2021 on an OTT platform Amazon Prime Video.
‘The Tomorrow War’ stars the famous actor who rose to prominence for his character ‘Star-Lord’ in the Marvel film series ‘Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie also stars actors such as Yvonne Strahovski, Betty Gilpin, J.K Simmons, Jasmine Mathews, Sam Richardson, and Edwin Hodge.
To date it has received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for the concept, action sequences, and performances (particularly Pratt and Richardson), however, criticism aimed towards its by-product execution and a sequel is in development.
Reasons Why You Could Give the Movie A Watch
Though the movie has nothing unique to its storyline and follows the same pattern as other alien movies with one female alien that the male aliens need to protect and the movie is just a bloating talent for business blockbuster, the movie’s directional aspect and choice of Chris Pratt to play the role was justified.
You may find the plot as ridiculous as the Bollywood movie ‘Radhe’ but there lies a missing piece in every such movie and this is why one could give it a watch. I assure you the puzzle piece in this movie is different than in movies like Armageddon and Independence Day, for the same reason its ending and production of a sequel are what will get you going.

“30 years in future”
As you watch the movie you might as well start wondering why are only middle-aged people being sent to fight killer aliens, rest assured, the answer to your question clearly lies in its plot. The movie has made remarkable use of Quantum Physics concepts like those from Avengers: Endgame but will nevertheless make you roll if you are a fan of alien films.
The movie has nothing that will make you fear or tremble, rather will make you feel better providing a dramatic line better serviceable than the rest. Giving you another little peak, the scenes are not set in dark nights but broad daylight because the sole reason for alien invasion would only then be justified.
Why You May End up Having Mixed Reviews
While few aspects of the film like the action scenes and performances are fantastically directed, many may find its script nonsensical which is why it needs a sequel to provide a clear conclusion with sensible reasoning to its audience.
You may also find it unnecessary to watch the movie because just by its trailer you will understand that the obvious inspiration of this movie’s concept not only lies in the previous alien movies but most evidently in Tom Cruise’s ‘Edge of Tomorrow (2014)’.
If you haven’t watched it then I suggest you watch this one. However, unlike those, some scenes contain nonsensical sacrifices, and just when you have mildly started enjoying something will definitely spoil your immersion.

The plot is less consistent and has a standard script, irrespective, the design of aliens is genuinely impressive.
The Bottom Line
‘The Tomorrow War’ is surely a bloated film, desperate in nature trying to get its viewers like it that may not become a blockbuster but is sensibly directed despite its problems.
My ratings for the movie - 3.5 on 5
You may watch the movie on - Prime Video
