Dushyant Mishra - My Ability To Connect Dots In Across Domains Comes Naturally To Me, And It Helps Me Arrive At Solutions That Do Not Seem Obvious (Founder, unLearn)

An achievement that transcends across time and boundaries of organisation is that I was able to design processes for running the rural insurance business for ICICI Prudential. Those processes have become industry standards in many ways.

1. Tell us more about your background and journey.

I belong a to the generation that experienced liberalisation of markets. I did my engineering followed by PG on rural management, as these were the only options presented to me. Thereafter, I had the opportunity of working in some great places, viz. NDDB and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. For more than a decade now, I have been an entrepreneur. Not a socially successful one though.

2. What does your typical day look like?

My day starts at 7 am. I line up the things that I need to do during the day. A typical day comprises of calls with people who reach out to me for help. I give about 2 hours daily to a non-profit. I steal an hour’s nap post lunch. Watch about 30 minutes of a movie or a series. Takes me 3 to 4 days to finish a movie. I sleep by midnight. Weekends are no different than weekdays.

3. What are your strengths?

My ability to connect dots in across domains comes naturally to me. And it helps me arrive at solutions that do not seem obvious.

4. What is Your biggest professional achievement?

An achievement that transcends across time and boundaries of organisation is that I was able to design processes for running the rural insurance business for ICICI Prudential. Those processes have become industry standards in many ways.

5. What piece of advice would you give to the student's for their future?

Life is a buffet. Try a lot of things before you commit to something. And be open to change the commitment.

6. Who is your inspiration?

lot of people inspire me. Anyone who pushes the boundaries and does something for the first time is an inspiration.

7. Who is your favourite writer and why?

I do not read book. I acquire my knowledge by reading articles. I read about 50 pages each day.

8. Which is your favourite book and why?

Of the few books I have read, one that opened my mind to thinking is “Surely You are Joking Mr. Feynman”. This book by Nobel Laureate Dr Richard Feynman is an account of his journey. And how he questioned things around him. It helped me develop my curiosity.
